Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

The media narrative is actuality not even annoying me as much as it amused me nowadays.

They were quick to repeat the face we’ve had our winning run stopped. Ok. That’s a fact. However any other team and they’d be saying we are still unbeaten. Also a fact.

It’s actually funny. They won’t get their own way no matter how much shot they try and sling. That’s why is brilliant. They’re chucking shit and it’s not sticking and then they’re washing it off with their boiling piss and salty tears.

you implied it when you said it wasn't right that VAR couldn't award a free kick......if VAR was empowered to award a free kick, every contact or near contact would have to be reviewed wouldn't it, or if it was only selective challenges which were reviewed then imagine the uproar on here ;)
No , the contact on the edge of the penalty when the ref is deciding if it is a penalty or not , dont think VAR is neccesary for a throw in on the half way line either.

The ref would get slaughtered if he booked a keeper for the first time wasting offence after 3 minutes. He definitely isn't going to send off a keeper for two bookings for time wasting
Or at least the ref should walk up to the keeper and give him a warning. All we see is the ref jogging back to the halfway line flapping his hands with a get on with it gesture.

I don't believe the pundits/commentators suggested there was no foul, only the referee thought that. But you can't criticise the application of VAR here. It's remit is to review for clear and obvious error within its jurisdiction, which in this instance was "was it a penalty". It wasn't clear and obvious, it was too close to call even after many angles and viewings (imo of course) so VAR performed perfectly.

You are of course free to criticise the jurisdiction under which VAR operates, but are you advocating VAR is used to determine whether a foul has taken place irrespective of whether its in the box, just outside the box, or near the corner flag (for example)? In which case the game would cease to function as a sport as every tackle would have to be reviewed for a possible foul, Or just when it might have been in the box, in which case you blur the lines of its jurisdiction.

Or what exactly are you suggesting?
You are Mike Riley and I claim my £5...
