Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

Sterling puts his easy chance away,we win the game

i know me and many on here do go over the top with sterling but misses like yesterday are common with him
they can me big game changers and you have to take them in games when you are under pressure or not playing well

criticism is a good thing and nobody in the city team should be above it ? sterling was rightly pelted yesterday and had a shocker not just with the sitter

That opening half hour, slap in the face for those of us expecting more of the football that we have come to expect. Like the loss to Wigan at wembley. Losing is only acceptable versus a superior team, painful but forgivable. "Hands up, the best team won", not a phrase we have had to use for what feels like an age, usually it's bent refs, VAR overthinking etc.
It's been said a few times that the most likely team to beat City is....City.
Knowing it can happen is my way of dealing with it. Much easier to write than sticking with it...........

Wow, there are some really hard assessments on this thread of what we did yesterday. In the match I saw, after a really dozy start, from about the twenty-fifth minute, thirtieth at the latest, we clearly started to get on top of them. Second half, we battered them, even though they defended very determinedly, and were dangerous on the break. Do people think that we're the Harlem Globetrotters, and that we're going to showboat every match we play?
I agree.

I was at a funeral all afternoon so i couldn't watch the game live, but i recorded it and kept up with the score. I then came home and read some of the comments on here about us being shite in the 1st half but a lot better in the 2nd, so i was a bit apprehensive when i sat down to watch it.

I was wondering what game some people watched because i didn't think we played bad at all. They had a plan, but once we figured out what they were doing we dominated.
By this time we were 1-0 down though and i'm blaming Phil for the goal. He was tracking their fullback but after he passed it, Phil stopped and let him run into the area unmarked, it still it took a great strike to score though, so fair play.

That seemed to wake Phil and us up and after that we should've won.
Phil put a great ball into the box for Sterling, who took too long and missed a sitter, sorry but you have to score that lad! There were other crosses into the box and i'm thinking ( not for the first time) if we had a top striker/goalscorer (Haaland or Kane) we would be converting more of the crosses and chances we create and could've gone in at halftime 3-1 or even 3-0 up.

We dominated the 2nd half though, they had one decent opportunity, but we had shots on goal, crosses into the box and on another day would've wound up big winners.

So i thought we didn't play as bad as some have suggested and it will be just a blip in the road.

I think KDB is getting better everyday, Phil played well after their goal and our defence was solid.

We definitely need a top striker though and i think either Sterling or Jesus will be have to be sold as they are becoming pretty much the same player. They can both be equally brilliant or infuriating but we haven't got room for both.
So one of them, plus Mahrez to leave and bring in Haaland, Alvarez and play Cole Palmer more.

Sterling didn’t turn up but that goes for most of them. Foden was really poor. IMO Grealish was the best of a bad bunch. Not watching the same game as you!

He was crap.

The entire team were for 45 minutes and only Kev dragged us a point.

Grealish should not be in the team ahead of Gundo right now and spent much of yesterday's game deferring to others.
