Exactly this. VAR was attempting to determine whether or not the foul occurred in or out of the area - implicit in this was the recognition that a foul HAD occurred. Therefore, once the decision is made that it occurred outside, it seems perverse to then reset the game as a goal kick/corner, rather than award a free kick. The officials are acknowledging a foul has been committed, yet the defending team get off Scot free.Agree with this.
A foul was committed.
Was it just inside the box for a pen?
Was it outside?
A very close call.
However, a foul was committed so we should have got a free kick at least, I believe.
