Southampton (A) - Post Match Thread

Agree with this.
A foul was committed.
Was it just inside the box for a pen?
Was it outside?
A very close call.
However, a foul was committed so we should have got a free kick at least, I believe.
Exactly this. VAR was attempting to determine whether or not the foul occurred in or out of the area - implicit in this was the recognition that a foul HAD occurred. Therefore, once the decision is made that it occurred outside, it seems perverse to then reset the game as a goal kick/corner, rather than award a free kick. The officials are acknowledging a foul has been committed, yet the defending team get off Scot free.

A great day out (if a long one) but totally disappointed with the bias and the clear intention to try and keep the title race alive... They literally have no shame anymore and will do anything to slow our progress... The challenge on KDB was a pen for me and I have zero words for the challenge on Laporte being ignored....

Murphy on MOTD really showing his true colours when he said , words to the effect of "there wasn't enough intensity to award a red card"..... Utter fucking drivel

Enjoyed the 2nd half atmosphere though which was marred slightly by the result and fucktards on the pitch at the end

Fair result. Well done Southampton. But another absolute piss easy chance missed by Sterling which would probably have seen us go on to win it. Get rid and get full time goal scorer.

The man on the BBC website said it was a red!! I'm a little bit mad about that.......... actually red with anger!! ;-) :-)

Everybody said it was a red, EB. Had a quick look around forums that are indifferent ranging to hostile to us — always an interesting litmus test. They all recognised it was a red. Wonder whether VAR thought that the Southampton player hadn't actually sawn Laporte's leg off, so a yellow was sufficient.

The ref should be allowed to give an indirect free kick instead. The booking is pointless, just wastes more time and doesn't benefit the opponent at at all. Nobody is getting sent off for a 2nd booking for time wasting.
Ok fair point.. if they get booked the first time they do it at the Etihad after 3 minutes like most do then they ain’t doing it again for the rest of the game.

If it was Laporte on the Southampton player ref charges towards him from 20 yards away hand in back pocket and can’t get the red out quick enough

i know me and many on here do go over the top with sterling but misses like yesterday are common with him
they can me big game changers and you have to take them in games when you are under pressure or not playing well

criticism is a good thing and nobody in the city team should be above it ? sterling was rightly pelted yesterday and had a shocker not just with the sitter
But he's not a striker mate, fucks sake a ten year old kid playing centre half could've made a better fist of that effort yesterday, lol
