Southampton Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

Before our game their home record is 4 wins 2 draws 1 loss. Not exactly a place to expect getting 3 points.

Im happy with the 1 point in the granf scheme of things but gutted we didnt get a lucky 3 points win.

Ill hazard a guess that we are gearing down for tired legs and preventing injury.
You could also say that they've only won a little over half of their home games. Exactly half now, after today. Stats, eh?

The tempo we played at was so slow, and even slower after they equalized. At home teams can't handle the pace we play, we simply blow teams away. playing at the pace we did today makes it easier for sides like Southampton,Villa,Cardiff etc to be comfortable & confident in possession. Until we learn to speed our game up away from home we will continue to struggle imo.

Also, even if the Posterior win tomorrow, they will be fifteen points ahead of the scum, which is insurmountable, but only eight ahead of us, which isn't. Today was disappointing but I refuse to regard it as a defeat.

Stay calm drama queens. I think we had an off day. No one in the league presses as well as Southampton, this does mean that we really need to get points at Arsenal , a draw won't be all that bad either. We still have Liverpool at home in the first round of fixtures, so another big one.

Arsenal do play at Napoli on Wednesday before travelling back for early kick off on Saturday. They have to get a result , so they won't be resting anyone. We play Munich on Tuesday and I don't think we will beat them 3-0 so better to get a beating or just turn up and give the second string a chance and rest Aguero, Zaba, Fernandinho and Nasri. We should have Silva back for Arsenal so big boost that ! :D
Agreed, something like

Hart
Richards Vinnie Lescott Clichy
Yaya Garcia Rodwell
Navas Dzeko Milner

Against Bayern with a view to playing

Pants
Zabba Vinnie Demichelis Clichy
Yaya Dinho
Silva Aguero Nasri
Negredo

Against Arsenal.

Yaya's suspended, I would rather have Kolarov vs Bayern and play Clichy at the weekend.

Southampton's home results against top teams since returning to the PL. From oldest to most recent:

Southampton 2-3 United
Southampton 1-2 Spurs

* Pochettino takes over *

Southampton 1-1 Arsenal
Southampton 3-1 City
Southampton 3-1 Liverpool
Southampton 2-1 Chelsea
Southampton 1-1 City

So stop crying, it's probably the toughest away ground to go to for any top club now. They play with incredible intensity. Every country has a team like this, go watch Bilbao vs. Barca from last weekend.

3 man midfield should be Yaya/Fernandinho/Nasri with Silva/Navas taking up wide positions.

I'd tend to agree, although I wouldn't mind seeing Rodwell/Fern/Yaya as a three at times. And Jovetic is key, I think, for us to play a front three - not sure Navas and Silva pose enough of a goal threat to both play there regularly. When we play one up front at the moment, we tend to end up looking a bit toothless.

Agree about Rodwell ... he needs to get fully fit first. Also last few times he's come on he's looked nervous and his positioning has been poor.

Yep, also got the impression he's been trying too hard to impress, needs to relax. But difficult, of course, when he's getting so little playing time - almost becomes a bit of a vicious circle.

We're soooo open with 4-4-2. I have a fear Arsenal are the perfect team to take full advantage. Everyone is so confident we'll batter them next week, but I'm not.

Yeah but we still have Arsenal and Liverpool to play in the first round of fixtures. Could very well end up with the Scums right behind us.
Though agree that todays point is good, not a bad result.

Re: Negativity

I am not displeased with the point. It was the performance which was shocking and we could have easily lost by 3 to 4 goals today.

Whether the rags lose or not makes no difference imo. They will be lucky to finish in the top 5.
