Southampton Vs City Post Match Discussion Thread

While Arsenal may be the best team in the league this year, I still feel they're not being pushed enough. If we can beat them next weekend, I can see us making a right fist of this if we can just iron out a few things.

If you had asked me at this time yesterday if a point at Southampton was acceptable, I would have said no. However, having played as poorly as we did for most of the game and with Southampton treating it like a cup final, we'll take the point and move on.

One thing that worries me is I don't think we're being taken seriously in this title race. We haven't announced ourselves as serious contenders. Had we won yesterday (with Chelsea losing), it would have given Arsenal something to really think about with their trip to our place on the horizon. Instead we find ourselves in the middle of that annoying pack of four or five teams that keep rotating the 3rd, 4th and 5th spots. We need a run of 6 or 7 wins and that must start next Saturday, no questions asked.

Believe me they know we are contenders.

What as gone wrong with City this season away from home, we don't look as confident with the ball when away from home, our tactics are to gun ho, and for some unknown reason we are not putting our chances away like we do at home, i do think myself that the way Pellegrini wants us to play and the players we have don't mix, Mancini had them playing to a certain style and it suited the players we had, we still have them players but don't play the same way, so as i see it we must sell about seven players, and either bring in players from our younger sides, or go out and buy the players who Pellegrini thinks can play to his style of football.

The seven i think he will have to sell are Garcia, Richards, Lescott, Rodwell, Kolarov, Clichy, Yaya, not because they are no good, or because i think they should go, but because i think the style that Pellegrini wants us to play doesn't suit them, the two fullbacks are not quick enough but are expected to get forward and back, and neither is Yaya fast enough anymore, and he doesn't run at defenders like he did just over a season ago, Lescott does not pass the ball all that well, Richards just can't get into the team, but would be ideal for Garcia's place, and Garcia is not strong enough to dominate the centre midfield, something is going to have to change if we are to be good away from home.

there are some right drama queens on this forum , one idiot suggesting we were totally outplayed , well the stats are as follows : saints had one more shot , had 2% more possession and one more corner , so if thats being outplayed when we clearly played below par , then i will take it every time.

Poor performance, hardly anyone at the races yesterday. Pellers needs to sort a way of dealing with a high press because we are going to face it more and more away from home. In hindsight it was a good point to take but with Chelsea slipping up, it was a real missed opportunity.

Still, onwards and upwards with the mighty Blues!

I'll accept that we're evolving from Mancini's play but disagree with everything else

If it's so difficult at St Mary's how come Sunderland and West Ham managed to draw there? They may have beaten Swansea, Palace, Fulham & Hull but that hardly says "FORTRESS". And I'm told they had their third choice keeper playing; so did we shoot on sight to make him fill his nappy or did we f*ck about in our standard away game manner? He had absolutely nothing to do in the second half. You can make as many excuses as you like; but there are none as blind so those who refuse to see. Four points from two away games might be OK if you're taking two games in isolation; taking all our away performances together it was piss poor.
I really hope I'm not reading about how difficult it is to win at Craven Cottage in a couple of weeks time as anybody posting it really needs a straight-jacket and a padded cell.
We were on top for twenty minutes and I think we'd have won had Sergio scored his second chance (looked easy from where I was stood but the brown-shoe numpties don't show visitors chances or goals so I couldn't really tell). However we were second best for much of the remaining 70 minutes. No excuses about being unlucky having played well as claimed after Villa, we just offered bugger all.
Six players out, third choice keeper and we just about held out for a draw. If you're happy with that then you can't have much regard for the quality of player in our squad.

Feeling glum about our underwhelming performance yesterday (which, to be honest, I didn't see)? Feel like a pick-me-up? Feel like having a laff? Log on to Chelsea's Shed forum, look at the comments on the Newcastle game, scroll down through all the guff until about the 86th minute, then read to the end of the thread and enjoy! It's priceless. Then, for a real rib-shaking bellylaugh, log on to Red Cafe. By that time, you'll probably need sobering up. So for that, I suggest going on to the BBC website for the report on the latest demolition job being performed by the Aussies on England's excuse for a cricket team…
Yes I know, all this has nothing to do with what we did or did not do yesterday at Southampton. But it does put a sort of light on it, don't you think? And I know one thing: it's the teams that play poorly and still take something from the game that are there or thereabouts at the death. The quality of our performance at Chelsea didn't console me at all, because we came away with precisely nothing. I'm cheered by the fact that we were poor at Saints and nicked something. We'll be back to our sizzling best on Saturday.

Thought you played ok on saturday. draw was fair result. first half you were the better side. southampton second half. tough away game so not awful result but you going to have to improve your away form long term if your going to stay with us. got to beat us next week. draw or win be great for us.

Nail on head end thread.

It's a good point away at Southampton, the only disappointment was that we didn't take advantage of their injuries. The fact that the rest of our away form has been rubbish, putting us under more pressure to win these tough games doesn't take away from the fact that it's a good points - I was impressed with the way they kept the ball and bypassed our midfield (highlighting the frailties of 4-4-2 away from home), and they are a smart outfit.

If Arsenal drop points today we are in a great position going into next weekend, if they take the 3 points then its added pressure, but a win will guarantee that its ground made up. If we can continue to take 4 points from every 2 away games here on in then we are laughing.
