I am a bit confused as to why you now have to apologise for calling someone a refugee. Is that now classified as a racist term. I have not read every post but I heard on the news he came over from Rwanda with his parents when he was 6. They did not announce the correct political terminology as to why they came as they probably thought it was not as big an issue as some on here clearly do. If they were not refugees were they economic migrants and given settled status. Are we allowed to use the term migrant or is that also derogatory.
He came from Wales when he was 6. He was born in Cardiff. That makes him British.

I'm on a loop here

Their words were 'not at this time'...is that difficult to grasp? Its not some underlying agenda. Give them a chance to investigate.

And they aren't 'tight lipped'-they dont give a running commentary to the public they will tell the public what they need to know.

Because of the 'always on', 24hr news cycle it feels like some people seem to confuse our law enforcement agencies with a news outlet.

It's entirely unclear to me why we have rolling news coverage in situations like this. There was no ongoing danger to the public, simply people whose lives have been shattered in the most awful of ways. There's no evidence at this point of any broader public interest either. Unless someone can tell me that this wall to wall coverage was a help to the victims and their loved ones I can't see why we should be doing anything other than letting them grieve in peace and the police do their job unless and until it's necessary to share any details. The treatment of both news and politics as a form of broadcast "entertainment" is one of the crapper parts of modern life.

I think you may be missing the point. The point I am making is the fact they are prepared to make a statement to that effect and nothing else, so early on in the investigation when they are not in possession of the full facts when they are not prepared to comment on anything else. The irony is those posters on here who are happy to jump down the throats of anyone who even mentions the word terrorism when discussing this tragic case.
I don't understand what you mean.

How is 'not treating it as terroism at this stage' in anyway ambiguous?

We've got Derrick Bird as well with 12? Shot dead including himself - it never made me feel scared in my home country. My mum is taking my kids (13 and 7) to London today to see some shows - I've never felt inclined to change plans due to any issues previously but I'm seriously considering if them going is the right idea after this week, if that's not terror related I don't know what is.
I wouldn't change your plans, mate. You can't wrap your kids in cotton wool forever, let them go and enjoy themselves and don't let evil cunts like this win.

Ironic posting this on a (mostly sane and reasonable) message board, but social media is one of the main corroding influences on mental health in the UK.

Agree, I think many who are not on it doesn't realize the power and impact it is having on society.
Kids are being shown endless clips of violence, beatings, peado hunters, anti Muslim/migrant rhetoric.

Algorithms deliberately targeting people to make them feel enraged.

a very good post-the news channels, written press are all rats in a sack chasing clicks and views with no regard to what they are peddling (see airport incident/the awful, voyueristic nicola bulley coverage for that)-the public are manipulated by it as you say.

Nobody's saying it's derogatory to call someone a refugee. If you could be arsed following the story, then you'd know he's not a refugee as he was born and bred in the UK. That's the point I was making to the poster and he was apologising not for using the term refugee but for assuming he was a refugee when he wasn't.

He didn't come over from Rwanda when he was 6 either. He was born in Cardiff and moved to the Southport area with his parents when he was 6.

The courage of the teachers is incredible and without it this could easily have been even worse.

Like most of us, people whose job is to teach kids to dance are very unlikely to be trained or prepared to deal with this kind of horrific scenario.

They would have been taken entirely by surprise by an unthinkably awful situation but between them they got several kids to safety and risked their own lives trying to protect those they couldn't get out.

For all we know the lad who did this yesterday walked into his kitchen picked up a kitchen knife and went about doing what he did. He's now going to get life in prison versus 10 years carrying a knife so a prison sentence deterrent wouldn't of made any difference.

The remainder knife crime is often because of gangs and gang culture. That isn't going to change with stricter sentencing around carrying knives, some gang members are carrying guns. Doing something about the gangs and reason to join them is perhaps more important.

The Police also cannot Police this given they're so under-resourced, it's always going to be a losing battle.
I understand that but the amount of knife crime is out of hand.

It seems a lot of kids are just wondering around and when there is any trouble the blade comes out.

It's out of control and it must be made clear to the people carrying then it's unacceptable and if caught in possession of one, there will be serious consequences.

There are too many people walking around that simply don't give a *uck, all ages, all creeds and colours, it needs sorting.

Oh I've let them go, but I never thought I'd have to give my 13 year old advice to scoop and run his sister in the event of something happening. I didn't like that feeling at all and I shouldn't feel like I have to.

Anyone carrying a blade 10 years prison, no fucking about, fight fire with fire.
100% agree.

Anyone carrying a knife is obviously carrying it to use it as a weapon.

Obviously then if they do proceed to use it like yesterday they should be given life in prison. I would have said the death sentence but that would make it an easy way out for them.

I came off twitter a long time ago and my mind is a lot healthier for it. I'm actively avoiding the news for the next couple of days because if I see pictures of the kids who were killed I think it'll break me. Knife laws need to be so much fucking stricter in this country; there are zero excuses to be carrying one around the streets.

Migrant or not the migration problem is out of control no normal british person wants any more here they don’t respect our land when they are here and that’s just scratching the surface for another day and topic. What happened yesterday is absolutely despicable and if that was my daughter lying in the street full of blood and it was someone who did this because of political or religious views I think I’d be doing life in jail . I honestly hate this country right now
Why are you discussing migration in a thread about a murder that's not been carried out by a migrant?

one difficulty is its often juveniles carrying weapons-do you send them all to prison for a decade? what happens when they come out?

its v complicated-you obv need a deterrent/stop and search etc but only as a part of a much wider solution.

You’re on the wrong thread. He wasn’t a migrant unless you count Wales as abroad.

You shouldn't have to, but it's worth remembering the vast majority in this world are caring, compassionate people who wouldn't hurt fellow human beings.

The sooner we are all given a what you can and cannot say book without offending , the better. Have you noticed, it never seems to be the minorities who have a problem, it’s their unelected woke spokesperson ( carefully avoiding the word man) who cannot wait to attach a label and speak on their behalf.

Bloody hell, give it a fucking rest.
Young kids have been murdered and you're blurting out shite like that (and other posts)

Halfmist? More like half a fucking brain.

-------------------------

Such a grim situation, absolutely awful for all involved.
Not sure how you ever recover from something of this nature tbh.
Whomever has done it should never see the light of day again.

world would be a better place if everyone come off it.

We just can't cope with social media, or having unlimited, unchecked information at our fingertips. It was bad enough having the media at times in years gone by, but we've sunk to new depths since the introduction of things like Facebook, Twitter etc.
