Spiegel: Leaked European Super League information

Hate the idea, but if it goes ahead we will be in it.

But if it happens it has to allow promotion, relegation and that would be against the interest of those who are not currently great teams (eg Milan) and have to rely on history. I can't see anyone being able to sell a league where some teams can't get relegated, no one would stand for it.

Also if FIFA / UEFA (both twats) do not sanction it, it will fail and split football forever in Europe.

If City leave the English tier system, I'm out. Sorry but that's it. I like playing dross sometimes, Southampton today was fun. Not every match can be a great one (despite Sky trying to sell Burnley vs Everton as a great British classic), you can't appreciate a good beer unless you've had a shit one to compare it to. This applies to the history teams, they can tell themselves they are still good and relevant by finishing top 4, top 6 whatever, by beating the dross (which we have been in recent history). Will OT sell out if they get beaten half the time? Would Anfield still have special nights when it happens every week, (and they lose regularly?) The worldwide fans want to see their team win, Barca and Madrid do at the moment, as do each of the teams who commonly win the leagues but a new league with them all in, more tough games more defeats, one or two teams would eventually come out on top then everyone else is just the new dross.

I'm rambling I know but I still hate the idea and think it's short termism. In the extreme.

I could be wrong but the more I think about these leaks, the more I come to the conclusion that UEFA are behind this one. They're shit scared of what FIFA (or at least Infantino) are planning as they know it's the end of their money-spinning CL if Infantino gets his way. And what better way of trying to kill it (because the FIFA numbers will be against them) than leaking some made-up shit about a European Super League to ensure that fans and the domestic leagues are dead set against any change in the status quo.

Possibly but could work against them.
If most people are against this, then fifa's idea may become more palatable whereas without this, everyone would probably have been against fifa's model.
Maybe fifa have leaked it?

My understanding from that is it will replace the champs league (not domestic league for sides participating). Aside from the elitism of it all, its not a bad idea in theory. Replacing what is essentially a knock out competition with a league, where the best team will be crowned European champion after playing everyone else.

Where it would fail is, when a team loses a couple of games and has no chance of winning it, and can't be relegated, and have an important domestic game coming up, they just wont be arsed and will just field B teams and focus on that instead.

Football in the prem has already become something where the average bloke feels alienated from the clubs, with mostly foreign players and owners earning vast fortunes. Gone are the days where local lads played for your club. This superleague would be another step towards further alienating the fans. I for one much prefer watching domestic football than champions league.

For years I wanted city to be in that top tier where a superleague would consider us and we’re now there. But if we join this we’re gonna lose our soul. I’d rather stay back with the remaining English clubs than join it tbh.

I think I'd concentrate on MCWFC and the EDS, and cherry pick other games. But once yer stop going on a regular basis inertia becomes a powerful driving force!!
Nothing against the ladies, but I just don't enjoy watching them play the same way I do the men. Think I'd probably switch to a different sport, maybe rugby or cricket.
