Do some research into the subject and you'll realise it's ALL a con mate. Don't go near them.
have you ever been to a spiritualist church?

No, I try to waste as little of my time as I possibly can, why?

I'm with girlbob. If it makes you feel better then go for it.

I know I'm in danger of sounding belligerent, but my mum went to one of these people when she was at a difficult point in her life because she thought it would make her 'feel better'.

The medium gave her a false hope that things would get better in very specific ways. When they didn't get any better but in fact got much worse she ended up on anti-depressants.

I'm not saying the medium caused that directly but the fact that my mum didn't learn to properly deal with her issues when things first started to go badly and instead went along thinking 'oh they'll start getting better any day now' led to her being unprepared when things ultimately got much worse.

I'm not trying to be a dick but this kind of 'whatever makes you feel better attitude' is potentially dangerous. Plowing into crisps and junk food makes people feel better, but I wouldn't recommend they do that either.

It's all about opinions mate. I seen one when I was a bit younger and had been suffering from depression, I was afraid to leave the house and in a real bad way. She helped me through it and my life has been brilliant ever since I seen her those years before hand and it's still great now to be honest. I keep in touch with her because she helped and I appreciate her help ever so much.

Interesting, that is mate. Makes me wonder whether it was her 'psychic abilities' which helped or maybe it was the friendship and counselling that developed from that? I think there are third party factors like that when it comes to mediums which is why I don't make them all out to be scum, like some people, because I think they are trying to help a lot of the time and sometimes just having a friend to talk to can do that. Their intentions are there, even if most of them actually work against what they are trying to achieve.

A lot of them don't help and can cause problems and that's why although in your case you believe it helped, I think it would be possibly much 'safer', to receive that kind of help from a counsellor or psychiatrist. I don't think there is anything a medium can give you that a genuine professional can't. That would be my honest opinion mate, though I expect you'll disagree due to your own experiences, which is your right.

how can you call it a con if you`ve never attended a service?

For the people suggesting to go and seek a counsellor rather than a clairvoyant.

What if a clairvoyant had high-end qualifications in counselling?

As I said I don't believe in it myself as I can't see/hear spirit, but I know my Mother wouldn't lie to her Son and she is adamant that she see's spirit and hear's them.

My Mother is no charlatan, has a full time job and doesn't need to con people.
she's been doing this for 30yrs, has a strong reputation in Manchester with most of her work coming from word of mouth.

I would love to believe that spiritualists were credible. I would give anything for a chance to 'talk' to my mum just one last time. It would be so lovely to hear that somehow she's still around...
But it's simply not the case.
One of the horrors of life, is dealing with death.

I agree with an earlier poster, it may bring you comfort, but it won't bring you closure.
A grief counsellor would be more helpful.

Big hugs, grief is a woman x

their body is dead but their spirit isn`t..

So there are billions of these spirits throughout history all around us then?
if you put it that way then yes,yes there are, they just exist on a different frequency to ours hence the fact that spiritualists act as the middle man bringing these two frequencies together....us and them upstairs!

I'm a physicist and I'm all ears, what do you mean by 'frequencies', I'm talking a proper definition here. Frequency is simply a word which describes how often something happens and so in this context it is ambiguous and needs to be clearly defined.

I can make up a word and throw it into a conversation to prove my point. "God exists, he just does so in a humagonathog."

You can't disprove that, because I made it up. See what I mean?

I'm not being argumentative, I just want a bit of clarification that's all.

I do agree with you but she also told me I'd be back in education and that I'd be offered a job the next April and little bits and bobs that came true. Like you say, it was probably a combination of the both. I have no doubt that some are fraudsters but people tarring them all with the same brush is a little unfair I think.

I've seen the services and people who used to perform these tricks have came out and spoke against it. Anyone who claims to be able to speak to the dead is either dillusional or are just after your money.
