Spot of bother yesterday

I was there and the gorilla guy did nothing wrong.

Why is it racist wearing a gorilla suit and a white T shirt with Caicedo’s name on the back. Caicedo is a huge ripped up guy. He was simply making a statement to say that Caicedo is a big gripper just like a Gorilla that is big and strong!!

Why is it that people always have to play the racism card??

Remember Bernard Hopkins saying he would never be beaten by a white boy!!! Imagine if it was the other way round and Calzaghe has said that. People would have been on the band wagon straight away, yet no1 was really bothered by it.

Another example, Kelly Pavlik nicknamed ‘The Ghost’, is that classed racism to white people?? Because reference to how white his skin is being made!!

What about people saying Golly Dolls are racist!!! Is a snowman racist to white people??

All these are just examples, people should just get over skin colour and move on. It’s pathetic!!

I am the gorilla in question!!!!!

Since the 80's city fans have wore fancy dress over the festive period so with city fans bringing inflatable objects to matches, primarily over-sized bananas, so dressing as a gorilla isn't out of the ordinary.

As for wearing the Caicedo t-shirt, colour or racism did not come into it, the reference to Caicedo was to his big build.

Apologies for those who took offence....

Would anyone be bothered if he'd come as a horse with an RVN shirt on...?

Or as Rooney in a Shrek suit...?

Or as Bellamy in Snake outfit...?

Or Ronaldo as a woman, obviously...?

Difference?

Discuss...

I understand what your saying, and there is no problem in coming in a Gorilla suit, but as black people are racially referred to as being like moneys/gorillas (ie the chants SWP among other England players were subjected to in Madrid) then I think the Caicedo t-shirt would/could be PERCEIVED as a form of racism.

I am not saying gorilla boy is racist, just that it can easily been seen that way.

To gorilla boy, did you get out of it OK? It seemed the police stepped in and that was the end of it really.

Was it also that someone did take offence or something else?

I know! The cheek of those black people, they should stop moaning and be lucky they're not still slaves I suppose?

yeah.. the problem with the horses was due to the rowdy kidz in the tent...

people shouldn't jump to racist conclusions, most took it light hearted and wanted photo's.

The difference is that Dutch people haven't been called 'horses' in the past as a racist taunt. Ugly Liverpudlians haven't been called Disney characters names, the Welsh aren't known for being serpent like and the Portuguese aren't insulted by being referred to as women, historically. Black people, however, have a history of being referred to as monkeys and find it offensive (it still happens in Europe now, with monkey chants aimed at black players). Anyone who can't see the difference is a moron. I'm not saying that was the intent of the suit, but that was end result. Maybe not intentionally racist, but unintentionally for sure.
