Ake played at CB because he clearly feels Laporte/Stones aren't ready yet either. Why are people not getting this? It's clearly only a fitness thing. The selection is being guided by fitness and nothing else.
45 mins Stones, 45mins Laporte, we have a bench full of internationals, we have a squad, we have no game for 7 days, use your squad, use your bench.

This season there will be no comeback from a bad start, the competition is and will be far stronger, the season started yesterday not November like last season

That's nothing more than a panicky opinion. Chill out. The idea that no other teams will have a bad patch and the next 3/4 games is critically crucial is melodramatic nonsense.

Also, no coach ever does that 45 minutes thing. They don't, and it'll likely be for a reason to do with conditioning. If you can find one example in an actual game, not a preseason one, then I stand corrected.

Mendy did NOT have a decent game, he was dire.
Mate it was clear as day light spuds was playing 4321 not 433 .
Their game plan was to gang up ferny with 3 players and executed it perfectly.
Mendy and cancelo were dragged in every time on counter . The bigger problem is not the player . Mendy did his at his position but can’t blame him for following his order.
Dias and eddie should’ve done better on the goal but no one wants to blame
them but yea let’s blame mendy ffs

The players that want out are maybe having a negative effect on the squad? The harassing and chasing down was not right yesterday.
I disagree. The players who want out were probably fit enough to play, but were sat getting splinters in their arses wondering "WTAF" with what they were witnessing.

Imagine not being able to get a starting spot in a game of this magnitude, & watching Mendy, Aké & a still out of sorts Sterling start ahead of you?

Pep needs to accept this is the PL, & NOT the Bundesliga or La Liga where usually only one or two teams compete for the top honours annually.

Panic?

It's fact, we have a difficult opening , we must keep in touch, the difference fans in stadiums will make this year is huge, the pressure at away games huge.

We had no preseason a huge disadvantage, but even the players that did have one, they were terrible yesterday, Mendy, fern, Mahrez, poor, poor games, why is that?

It was clear from the start of the second half we were in trouble, Mendy was all over the place, same with Serling and Torres and Mahrez, our bench did nothing, big mistake for me.

We were walking around with the ball which was worrying. You ain’t gonna score moving the ball slowly, the only reassuring thing from that game was a not very fit KDB coming on and changing things, get him on a pitch with Foden and Grealish, it will deffo be worth the watch.
Agreed 100%. Hopefully the leading pack won't be out of sight before we wake up & sniff the coffee...

Mendy giving the ball away repeatedly in dangerous positions is not following instructions.
99% of our supporters yesterday knew he was a weak link.
Unfortunately he proved us right.
Son swapped wings the second half because they saw how shite he was.

It doesn’t seem to be in his DNA but I really wish Pep would consider a back 3 system. We have a glut of usable CBs (Walker would play cb in a 3) and our fullback situation is pretty dire. Would allow us to get more midfield types on the pitch and try to free up the KDB or Grealish in attacking roles.

All just idle speculation and not something Pep has shown any interest in of course

I hate to break it to you OB but his performance was indeed embarrassingly bad.

Not exactly a shock but I do find it harder to get the full perspective pitch level in the corner compared to being front and centre of level 3 of the East Stand at the Etihad. Of course we did get a fine view of him running into the back of an opponent and conceding a soft free kick.
