Spurs (A) | Post-Match Thread

45 mins Stones, 45mins Laporte, we have a bench full of internationals, we have a squad, we have no game for 7 days, use your squad, use your bench.

This season there will be no comeback from a bad start, the competition is and will be far stronger, the season started yesterday not November like last season

Another example of where Pep can do no wrong.Had he used his bench better yesterday then we don't come away with a loss. ....it was clear as day that players were struggling in the second half and it was only a matter of time before we crumbled.

Literally the only reason Pep started Mendy is because he feels that we don't yet have a fit Zinchenko and Walker. It's painfully obvious. Everyone knows as soon as they're back Mendy is also back on the bench behind Zinny and Cancelo at LB.
Some common sense at last. I had half thought that he might have played Walker and Cancelo as the full backs and then replaced Walker with Zinny after an hour. As much as I like Mendy everything he does seems to be reactive and about a second after he should have done anything. In my eyes he is now about fifth choice left back behind Zinny, Cancelo, Ake and Laporte. I might even be tempted to play Walker there as well before him so that pushes him down further. Sad to say but we need to cut our losses if possible as he just isn't up to the standard we require and possibly the PL is too quick for him. And all because he was couldn't resist hacking down Townsend I think.

Curious selections?

He played those that have had the most time in pre-season and that himself and his staff concluded are the fittest and in the best position to play. What is curious. Yesterday was the most expensive 11 to ever play in a premier league game so if they are not up to it then we are properly fucked.

"get the job done" ffs. We weren't playing some friendly against part timers in Slovakia.
We paid what we thought those players were worth. By your metric, the team we put out should far & away have been the best to ever grace the Premier League, if money is the only judge of how good a team is???

Yes, get the fuckin job done, & then introduce Mendy, Aké & the rest. It really is that simple. :-|

Mendy giving the ball away repeatedly in dangerous positions is not following instructions.
99% of our supporters yesterday knew he was a weak link.
Unfortunately he proved us right.
Son swapped wings the second half because they saw how shite he was.
Son saw the vacant space not mendys weakness

It doesn’t seem to be in his DNA but I really wish Pep would consider a back 3 system. We have a glut of usable CBs (Walker would play cb in a 3) and our fullback situation is pretty dire. Would allow us to get more midfield types on the pitch and try to free up the KDB or Grealish in attacking roles.

All just idle speculation and not something Pep has shown any interest in of course

He effectively played three at the back numerous times last season.

Walker often played on the right of a three while Zin moved into midfield.

And when Cancelo played instead of Kyle, we used three actual CBs at times and Cancelo essentially played in midfield.

Yesterday, the formation was more of a 2-3-5, the average positions were virtually three flat lines so Grealish, for instance, was part of a front five.

No money is not the only judge but you are talking like Mendy and Ake are League 2 players not up to the standard of a premier league game. If they aren't capable of playing against spuds who barely finished top 10 last year then its a huge fucking problem and we can't sit here and moan of how we didnt have Stones or KDB out there. What if they both break their leg next week and never play again. Fucking nonsense.

Was a shite performance. End of.

In fact, I seem to remember KDB, Zinchenko and Stones playing against spurs last year, how did that go? Oh yeah, we lost.

By your metric, playing him at all must be even more stupid. Think about what you're posting mate... \0/

That would be an assessment for Pep and City's medical experts.

It really is quite simple, he was deemed fit enough to play a for a limited time if absolutely necessary but not for long enough that they wanted to risk starting him or only playing him for a short time from the start.

They took a risk bringing him on and we will have to hope that in doing so they have not set him back because that would be a misjudgment. However, whilst there may be some uncertainty about whether or not he should come on for the last 15 minutes; there's substantially less about whether it made sense to start him: it didn't.

These threads are the route to madness mate. Duck out, let them talk ill-informed shit to each other about playing strongest teams and respecting the badge and putting effort in and all that other fan nonsense.

It's always worth coming back to the threads at the end of the season just to shine a light on the worst. The ignoramus you're in "debate" with here has form.
