Spurs (H) 2nd Leg - Post Match Thread

Absolute bollocks, did you watch the game?????

Yes. We were absolute shite in the first leg, and defended like nancy boys tonight. We were awful. Every time Mendy, Laporte or Walker had the ball, I was shitting it. Why we conceded midfield, by not playing Fernandinho, is beyond me. Over 180 minutes, we got what we deserved, I'm afraid.

And tbf ..Pep has always said how difficult it is to win it.
Last season was the time. Then we had the resources to be fully focused and to give it our all in both legs. Tonight we gave everything but we couldn't in the first leg without risking too much? I'm sure Pep made the correct call. At the time I thought it was tactical. I didn't realise that he did it because he judged his players to be in the red zone. My one problem with all that is Sane. He hasn't played.

Silva has been on the wane for some time now.I called it two years ago.yes he came back with a purple patch..but sentiment in football is a dangerous game to play.
We have a goal scoring midfielder who is itching to play and, imo, would not have been over rawed...who knows what might have been with his youth vitality confidence and runs with the ball at his feet from midfield, opening up play like Kdb did.Taking Silva off with so much time left shows there is a real problem ...
Pep is there to forsee such problems. .and nip them in the bud.

He was great last season in spite of fretting over his sick child. This season he has been poor and the last three months very poor. It kills me to say it as he has been magnificent for us.

I’m in the CB stand next to the family stand. When the mayhem was erupting after “that” goal, I had a great view of the ensuing drama, Spuds players were done and distraught, Pep was flying down the wing, the players were going bonkers, apart from Bernardo, he was just below my view, had both hands on his head looking seriously worried, it stopped my own celebration. Did anyone else see it and I wonder if he just knew he touched the ball whilst Sergio was “offside”

I thought Walker was outstanding. Fernandinho you should know wasn't 100%. How come you don't know that? Mendy has missed so much football and Zinchenko is injured.

I’m just proud that I get to see games like this... margins, obviously but to be involved in that is why I fell in love with football. Drama, highs and lows and all experiences with my old man at my side.... how far we have travelled, disappointment at coming up short in a European quarters rather than feeling shit and coming up short at a tedious promotion.... a monumental effort from the boys, extremely proud!!

Gundogan was phenomenal tonight!

Many others were good and we were quite brilliant going forward.

Laporte was atrocious though. Feel really bad for the lad, he won’t sleep tonight :(

Spurs goal was correct decision.

But looking at our offside goal I had to get a ruler out and even now I’m not sure. When it’s that close is it right to be disallowed and ruin a fantastic moment. Fine if he was a foot off but that looked like an inch to me.

Is everyone sure that’s clearly offside?
I thought he came back onside

Now that I’ve had time to calm down a bit, I just want to say...

I am proud of our players, even Eric, who tried to work through a horrid night and will be absolutely destroyed right now. He deserves our support as, unlike some other clubs, we don’t turn on our players when they have a ‘mare.

They did everything to battle through the adversity, showed their class and determination, and if not for two marginal VAR calls, we would be through after probably one of the most entertaining Champions League matches in history.

Centurions, I salute you.
all very noble sentiments however the "adversity" was sadly, mostly all self inflicted. Eric is not hurting as much as myself or my son who was in tears at the end!
Next year.....

We weren't shite in the first leg but played different tactics. Mistakes have put us out all their goals should have been prevented. Son's shot tonight was a good goal but he was given loads of space. We play a high line and risky football and it almost paid off. We weren't shit but a couple of individuals were at key moments.

Personally, I thought Walker was awful. Mendy was gash. Maybe Fern should have started. If he wasn't fit, why was he on the bench? I really couldn't care less. I am far more interested in winning the PL title than this glorified CL bollocks. Hopefully now we can concentrate fully on a never achieved domestic treble. We will slaughter these twats on the weekend.

I absolutely agree we mostly did it to ourselves, via one player’s mistakes — and my full minute of uncontrollable screaming when Raheem put it in, followed by about 15 minutes of silent, bewildered glazed eyes after they ruled it offside (over inches—and feet—always seemingly given to Liverpool) has me gutted, hence the time need to calm down.

But, ultimately, I do not see anything that match to be ashamed of or generally unhappy with, excepting Eric’s performance, but he has been our best defender all season, so one ‘mare should not turn us against him (we’re not Dippers, after all).

I suppose I just want to be supremely disappointed for a few days, then move on to the treble, the same as I want for our team.

Hope you and your son are on the mend — just remember, we’ve seen much worse, blue!

You've had 17 posts in two years and most of them must have been tonight. You are on the WUM as nobody can know so little about football.

No room for sentiment. It's football.
Liverpool used to ruthlessly replace any one of their top players when they ruled the roost year in year out.
No doubting the man's talent and benefit over the years.but he should never have been selected tonight.not in a million years.
