Stadium Expansion (Confirmed)

Planning application would be for both ends, but not done at the same time (south first). Away fans location not decided, but still likely to be access at south-east corner (maybe half of top tier at south), 2nd tier at south end would have wider concourse (new wall is several metres outside existing structure) but this means even more "enhanced" seating with packages. Trouble is, if they're displacing people from level 2 for more corporate areas, there will be some demand for people moving to existing parts of the ground.

Both ends will be done at the same time.

This is big news. They didn't say it for sure in the summer - the official line was that doing them both at the same time, or the south end first were both options but the latter was regarded at that stage as more likely. If they've changed their minds as a result of the fan consultation, it's quite significant.

Isn't the intention to accompany the addition to each end of 6K seats with the creation of 2,400 new premium seats down the sides to increase revenues, with the 2,400 displaced fans being offered replacement seats in the expanded ends. If they add in 12K seats to the capacity at one go, it presumably would mean that they think they can sell 4,800 premium seats by 2015, which would be a major boost to matchday income.

was there an indication of disruption into a season, reduced capacity etc?

How do you register an interest in a ST? I filled in the survey they sent me and I would definitely by a ST in the cheap areas of the expanded stadium (tight I know but living in Scotland means not being able to get to all games). Does this count or do you need to do something else?

Thanks in advance for any advice. Feel free if you want to take the piss!

Sorry mate, but attitudes like this are precisely why we have so many non attendees at a standard run of the mill league fixture.

As a general rule, if you are unable to attend the majority of home fixtures, or have no intention of doing so, a season ticket isn't for you.

A season ticket is a commitment to attend every home league fixture, if you can't attend a good 15 or 16 of the 19 league fixtures then you should be buying tickets individually.

After the takeover, many people saw buying a season ticket as a guaranteed ticket for the big fixtures, and nothing more. "Buying" a seat. That is an awful attitude, and places obstacles for other blues attending.

The problem which exacerbates this however, is the growing price of individual league tickets at City. For some people, the cost of going to several league fixtures on individual tickets makes absolutely no sense, as often it represents awful value for money compared with just buying a seasoncard, and ultimately, the costs will be comparable anyway.

Typically, people who were once unable to attend the majority of home fixtures - due to proximity to the ground, family, work, cost - would just buy individual tickets with an accesscard or citycard. Now, more of them are deciding that individual tickets don't represent value for money, and they're purchasing season tickets.

At least that's my theory behind the empty seats we regularly see at sold out home fixtures, and I think it's one that is only going to get worse the way our individual ticket prices are going.

Anyway, don't take this as a personal attack mate, I just think that this is a topic worthy of debate.

No problems with your viewpoint. This is just the reality for me and I can't justify £500+ expenditure to the boss when she knows I will only get to some of the games.

I do see it however as making a contribution to the increased income streams that the club is trying to generate and thereby doing my bit!

I would also always try to ensure that my seat was made available if I couldn't attend and wouldn't be that bothered about payment as long as it went to a genuine blue.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

If there is a need for any reduction in capacity whilst work is carried out, the club intend to revoke season tickets of fans who regularly no show at games and using the latest movement sensors linked to HD CCTV, the club will monitor fans who leave early and again, if there is a need for a reduced capacity during building work, their season tickets will be revoked. The club feel this will free up around 4,000 to 5,000 seats and fans can be temporarily relocated there.

I put this on the main stadium and collar site thread a few weeks back as it was discussed at the main supporters group meeting. It was fed back through our OSC

That is why I posted in the first place de niro, I am 1,000% with you, City's fans are number one whatever. Not sure you would find another club who would talk to fans before they did something as major as this.

OK my sycophantic gene came into play there........................ but it doesn't make it any the less true. City are the best club for supporters in the land in all the world.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

A quick seach on the link below shows that a planning application has not been submitted as yet. The last planning application was for the name discs around the ground. So although plans may be released soon I dont suspect that any building work (prep work outside of the stadium etc) will be commencing any time soon.

Pound to a peice of sh1t that some smart arse rag will lodge an objection which may cause a delay at worst. (no way the council will reject the plans).

Anyway exciting times indeed, if you get the chance have a look at the plans for the new bridge in the attached link (they are in the documents tab when you click on the application) very impressive indeed!

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

very excited about this, can't wait, would like to see a narrow strip of away fans over 3 tiers, as it has been said earlier they would struggle to generate an atmosphere, my season ticket is in south stand level 2 (2nd back row) so I was expecting that i'd have to move at some point during the expansion, anyone shed any light on this?

They've just finished the consultation with City fans, which took place in July and August. The next stage is to put firward plans for a wider public consultation, which usually takes about six weeks, ahead of the planning application. Originally, when the fan consultation was launched in July, the official site stated that timetable was for the public consultation to be launched in October with the planning application being filed in December. However, they've changed it now to suggest that the public consultation will be in "the autumn" with the planning application to follow. I suspect that it may therefore be early in the new year, but we'll see.

We won't get to see the detailed proposals until the planning application is made. However, the official site promises that the planning application will contain "early design proposals and [an] assessment of their impact". I'm fairly sure that, at the outset of the fan consultation, the club suggested the work could go ahead without there being any reduction in capacity or disruption to fans but I can't find that right now. (I also find that difficult to imagine, but that was the suggestion).

I’m excited, all right don’t get worried, it’s just a supporter’s excitement and this time it isn’t even over Vincent Kompany or Zaba!! So there’s something new! You should know me by now, I get excited at the slightest thing............. not that Vinnie or Zaba are the slightest things, but I'm old not dead!!! :-)

Anyway, along with a group of other fans I was invited to the stadium to view the expansion models and discuss what the plans for the fans are going to be when they get planning permission. The images of how the stadium will look are absolutely fantastic and of course this will mean more season tickets. The plan for the season tickets is with a starting price of around £299.

It will give people chance to add friends and family to the waiting list so that you can all sit together if you want to. When you register your/their names you get an allocated number and the sooner you register the higher up your number will be. Then when they start allocating the new season cards you can either accept the offer or, if you want to wait a little longer for some reason, you won’t lose your place on the list you will be re-invited for the next round of offers. You will have to put a deposit down for the number of people when you register but that discourages time wasters I guess, although that wasn’t how it was put across.

As I say I am excited about how this looks as if it's going to pan out. It’s obvious the club is not just saying, 'right this is it, take it or leave it,' they are canvassing views from supporters and they are listening. Supporters wanted cheaper season cards and they listened and are working on it, supporters wanted to move and sit with their friends or family and they are looking to help people with that.

It's a good omen I feel. Well done City. IMHO
Glad your excited She but it will price me out of my seat and that will be me finished with City then. Not for the fans anymore

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

De Niro/Eccles Blue.

*Both ends being built at the same time*.

Which is indeed interesting news.

Did they touch on the new capacity, as the general consensus on here was an extra 6000 seats at each end, taking us to 60,000.

This would mean City would have to shift an extra 12,000(minus the corporate layout) seats on match days, which let's be honest is a though ask.

Hence why I'm thinking there could be more £299 season tickets available than we think.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

I've found the original story with the timetable in it: it's here http://www.mcfc.co.uk/News/Club-news/2013/July/Etihad-Stadium-future - but I've copied and pasted the text below, highlighting the relevant text. They always said the public copnsultation would be in "the autumn", though if they're allowing six weeks and have to look as though they've seriously considered the responses before applying for planning permission, they'll have to get cracking fairly soon:

Public consultation opens around Etihad Stadium development

Fri 12 Jul 2013, 7:00AM
Posted by @porter_mcfc

Manchester City Football Club opens an exhibition at the Etihad Stadium on Friday 12 July to present the Club’s options for the potential expansion of the ground’s seating capacity.

The Club is seeking the views of fans, local residents and other stakeholders at the free exhibition at the Etihad Stadium where people will be asked to fill in a short questionnaire.

The same information and questionnaire can also be viewed online and responded to at http://www.mcfc.co.uk/stadiumfuture

The capacity of the Etihad Stadium is currently around 47,500. The Club’s two proposed options are to undertake the expansion of the South Stand alone (phase 1), to increase matchday capacity to around 54,000, or to expand both the South and North Stands at the same time (phases 1 and 2), to increase matchday capacity to about 60,000.

In the event of planning permission being granted, it is the Club’s current intention to first proceed with the development of the South Stand. However a phased or concurrent approach – pursuing the additional construction of an extension to the North Stand - remains a possibility.

This proposed expansion of the Etihad Stadium would allow the club to introduce a new Seasoncard for £299, and to improve the hospitality offer.

The questionnaire also asks fans of both Manchester City and other football clubs for their views on the possible relocation of visiting fans on matchday.

This first phase of public consultation runs throughout July and August and will be followed by a formal public consultation in the autumn ahead of the club proposing to submit a planning application to Manchester City Council in December.

Spokesperson: Pete Bradshaw, Head of Infrastructure & Corporate Responsibility; said:

“Manchester City Football Club strives to provide its supporters and visiting fans with one of the best possible matchday experiences in the Premier League and European football. Games are selling out frequently prior to going on open sale and there is rising demand from supporters for more season tickets, matchday tickets and premium seating. This is why we are considering these expansion proposals.

“We will be in touch with every fan who would be potentially affected by the changes in phase 1, and we encourage fans, residents and anyone who has a point of view, to visit the exhibition in person or online and tell us what they think.”

...

Now I'll see if I can find what they said about disruption during any work.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

If we fill it, good, if we don't, then we just look stupid. We can't moan about glory supporters though as we'll need to attract at least 12,000 new fans.

No im not a rag in disguise, just being realistic, would be great to go to one of the biggest stadiums in Europe every week to watch city.

32,000 empty seats, are we fucking sure?

If you're not a rag then why are you posting like one, rather than discussing it sensibly & realistically ?

32, 000 ? Really ?

Very dodgy indeed.

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

Away fans over 3 tiers is a great idea. The best away ends are places where you are all on the same tier its harder for songs to carry over two tiers never mind 3 so it will be 3 smaller pockets of fans singing different songs at the same time

Re: Stadium Expansion excitement!

Just my opinion.

TBF MCFCDroylsdenBlue has a point, but he could have put it more subtly. ;-)

There's absolutely no point in expanding both ends if we can't fill them. Or one of them.

Having the whole or part of the North Stand 3rd tier empty on match days, minus the obvious matches that should sell out, will look........(fill in as appropriate)

Hence why City need to price these new 12,000 seats(?) and the current ones accordingly.

The problem being. City can't sell x amount of these new 12,000 seats at £299, which let's be honest, offer a better view compared to the vast majority of level 1 seats, and then expect *current season ticket holders to pay the prices they're paying now*. HOW DOES THAT WORK THEN?

I'm sure the great and the good at City have come up with a plan, but I honestly can't see how they can do it, and in the process keep everyone happy.
