Stadium Expansion

I would personally get plans in place to increase it but wait two years, that way we will be in the Champions League and more than likely will be able to pull in 60,000+ a week on a regular basis.

I wish the club would offer family packages for us abroad where I could bring the kids at an affordable price.

Click on matches, seasons, then 02/03 and it has the full list of matches, results and attendence

and how do those statistics prove whether we sold out our allocation or not?

I think anyone will tell you the person who ran that site was spot on with everything he wrote, the majority of it coming from official sectors itself.

You've got to start planning for the future now, not wait and see if it happens, with all the investment that is coming to the club and area the planning needs to start now.

Priced correctly and with plenty of other entertainment people will come, old fans who have drifted away as well as the new fans our increasing popularity and media attention will bring.

i understand what ur saying, but i just cant see us ever getting them sort of crowds,41years iv been going an i think are best ever average attendence has been 39k,please someone correct me if im wrong
1st season at COMs was over 40k+ and if I remeber so was 1977 ish

Will we have an END we can call our own? Where we don't have to move for away fans during cup games? Where we don't stand (sorry, sit) in pathetic, degrading 'singing sections'? Where we can queue in an orderly fashion and be served in less than 15 mins with a beer, or a coffee, with a taste, from an attentive, moderately literate, pre-school numerate, English speaking bar person? Where we don't have to put up with an awe-deflating MC whose balls haven't dropped? Where we can erect simple signage stating 'Would patrons kindly leave all inflatables in the sheds at the bottom of their gardens where they belong'? Will we?

Well, the full trend is:

2003–04 46,384
2004–05 45,192
2005–06 42,856
2006–07 39,997
2007–08 42,077
2008–09 42,887
2009-10 45,292

But we've certainly had averages above 39k.[/quote]

The average over the 7 years works out at 43526.
"build it now they will come"

What's the story behind this?

The problem with that is that it will probably mean a reduced capacity while the building work is ongoing, so this season would have been the best time to carry out the expansion if it is in the pipeline, rather than wait until we are easily selling out for EVERY game.

going by the plans on another thread, there seem to be plans to extend the North Stand, although will the "singing" section be willing to move so far from the away fans? and if the cannot see the faggot in the pink shirt, how are they supposed to sing about him?

Hmm... Don't really see a need for stadium expansion right now. Perhaps in the future, but City's tickets are relatively cheap compared to other clubs and the stadium doesn't sell out all the time either. I can see an expansion being needed in the future, though.

I do, however, feel Chelsea should get a new stadium or expansion. Almost every game this year has sold out publicly at one ticket per member based on loyalty points, with tickets at £50-£65 each, with another estimated 7,000 people wanting season tickets. All I'm saying is, we need an expansion first :P

The problem for you guys is you can buy the whole of East Manchester for the cost of a penthouse in Chelsea!

No need, we have an oligarch. Not as wealthy as your Sheikh by any means, but still fucking loaded and passionate about the club. Hell, his wealth grew by something like 20% this year after it's decline last year. It's not like he's short of cash. I know for a fact that we are looking at new sites for a ground in the region of 60,000 capacity.

I very much agree with this. My Dad is an architect, and he tells me mock ups have been produced for two areas for a new stadium (as produced by a private firm he has worked with). One of which is on the Earls Court/Olympia site, which is about one and a bit miles from the current site, the other is Battersea Power Station.

Problem with a move far away would be it'd need to be approved by Chelsea Pitch Owners in order for the club to keep it's name. I understand a move within reason would be approved by the CPO, though.

Sorry, guys, back to City. Don't wanna change it to a CFC discussion!

so are the blue and red dippers, I'm willing to bet we get to 60k 10 years before you, rightly or wrongly thats simply the way it will be.

Again, I agree with you there. There's more room around your stadium to expand as well. We have two train lines either side, and a main road on one side.

I think you'll get it before us, as we'd have to move, but I don't think City need an expansion yet. The capacity you have at the moment is perfect in my opinion.

I believe we sell out most of our away allocations actually (especially if the website is to be believed). Certainly every away I've been to except Boro away last season had a decent turnout.

On a personal level, I can only really afford five or six away's a year, possibly with a European away thrown in on top of my season ticket and attendance to all home cup and european games.

Nobody should be blamed for not turning out at that shithole!

just as well our owners have the confidence to make their own decisions about extending the stadium rather than rely on the nod of approval from opposition fans stuck in the past
