Stadium Expansion

I haven't read the whole thread so apologies if the question has already been asked.

Can we not dig a bit further down?

Yes the drainage etc would have to be altered, but certainly at each end of the ground, there is quite a bit of wasted space due to the curve, rather than straight ends at many other grounds?

The cantilevered roof surely means that they would have to build a whole new roof to expand?

It's not cantilevered in the old fashion stadium sense but cable stayed. I understand the end roof sections can be removed (but not at the same time due to global stability issues).
Why, would it spark off wars around the world?

Well only islamic contractors did during a Jewish concert.

I'm sure it has been quite strongly hinted ,on the other thread, that the 2 ends could increase the capacity by changing the pitch of the seats and making them a single tier, similar to the kop. This could all be done without touching the roof.
How many rows would it need to add 6000 to each end.

Since the pitch of the seats is set by the concrete structure this would men a new base structure

If the roof has to come off all in one go, how did they manage this for the commonwealth games?

The suggestion about digging down is not impossible but it would mean the stadium swould not meet UEFA / FIFA requirements with respect to touchline to fanline distance thus no prestigious events

A few extra seats could be found by moving the players' tunnel to the NE corner access tunnel like as been do at a few other grounds

It's the cabled support stucture of the roof that is the problem, you can see it there on that commonwealth picture even though roof itself isn't there yet

This has been answered on numerous occasions The primary structure cablenet was in place during the games This is a pretensioned structure a vital part of the roof structure

We could fill it for cup games if some bright spark in the ticketing department realised that cheap tickets (circa £10 adults) will put bums on seats. Whats better, 20k (villa in the league cup was close to this?) @ £20 with a dire atmosphere or 47k @ £10. In some cases they'll lose out financially with reduced revenue due to cheaper prices but surely worth it if your creating a better atmosphere to push the team on?

Problem is that the ticket office don't set prices. And both clubs need to agree prices as they share the income.
