Exactly. Make incentives for people to attend the cup games and there could be many. They could include things like kids under 16 are free with an adult, under 18s £5 etc. Ron Atkinson used to fill Villa park when he was manager by introducing £1 entrance fees for minors and students so their attendances went from 28k to 40k. Makes for a better atmosphere and spectacle and also there are more people to spend money on food and drink at the ground.

The problem with (domestic) cup games is that the away team has to agree with the price that is set. So if we were to play, say, Telford in the FA Cup, if City say we want to charge a fiver for adults and a quid for kids, even at a sellout game, Telford's third of the gate money could be around (for example 47,000 @ 38,000 adults and 9,000 kids = 190K + 9K) £66K

Yet Telford would probably prefer to see a crowd of 25,000 with 20,000 adults paying £20 and 5,000 kids paying a fiver each = 400K + 25K totaling a cut for Telford of around £141K

would have though that too, but we can set prices at whatever we want regardless- arsenal charging a tenner for example in the cup, which is fixed at that price i believe

Apologies if this has been aired somewhere earlier on the thread but I would like to see the stadium expanded as rapidly and as much as possible and have 20,000 seats at low prices allocated to people living within the greater manchester area on lower incomes. I am lucky enough to be able to afford current prices but can see how a lot of genuine fans are being priced out. It would be such a win-win situation, it would be good for the atmosphere and good PR for the club and make football affordable again for thousands of fans.

that may be the case, but for all the positives of expansion, there are certain drawbacks, and this will (most likely) be one of them.

when you see the threads on here taking the piss out of the korean rags and old trafford, do you join in the piss-taking or do you stand back and praise their 'big time' mentality?

I would like to see expansion when there is sufficient demand. At the moment there isn't. League games are selling out, but apart from the United and QPR games, those who wanted a ticket could generally get one. There's no evidence that 5-10,000 fans are being locked out regularly.

Complete the Etihad campus and then move on to stadium expansion.

Sadly it takes years to get through design, planning and construction for an expansion.
You have to start now (if not earlier) to make sure you have the capacity (and revenue) you need on the assumption we are going to continue to be successful.

The fact we are selling out for nearly all home league games suggests that we may actually be too late already

yes but we cant stand still because we are scared of the tourists coming. they are already here and we haven't expanded. I dont think viagogo is trying to sell tickets to City fans. We used to take the piss out the rags for lots of things because its all we had in between lower divisions and shite football
