State Pension Increases

Just clarifying - I'm keeping out of the argument - as people confuse the available benefits.
Child Benefit is paid for all children under 18/in full time education; it's the Child Element of Universal Credit which is limited to just the first 2 children only.
Unless you manage to get one or more children diagnosed as "SEN" or "ND" etc etc, which doesn't seem too difficult at all these days given the record numbers of children that are receiving such diagnosis.

Really? You have proof of that do you or just following the narrative that all old people voted for Brexit?
Where did "all" come from? I said "most" and all surveys about who voted for Brexit "prove" that.

It’s nit inheritance tax it’s a DEATH TAX , and it’s a disgrace, that person has paid tax on everything all their life and now they tax it again when you die, it’s disgusting. Your dad is reaping his benefits because he’s earned it, otherwise you create a society were people just don’t bother to better themselves because they’ll just take it off you anyway, oh wait that’s what you are suggesting. If he sold his house and then went on a spending spree would that be better, he’d be reaping the benefits again. Maybe blow the fucking lot then get dementia and let the state take care of him. Or maybe just maybe he wants to leave it to you and your kin! Now that really is selfish.

How much do you stand to inherit? :)

That’s an interesting question which I haven’t applied my mind to.

Off the top of my head:

1. A tax on assets that would ordinarily compel people over 70 to dispose of them at a certain point

2. Reducing the state pension linked to those assets on a sliding scale.

3. Massively taxing second homes.

4. Banning people over a certain age from driving so they will need to move to more accessible by public transport, smaller homes.

5. Taxing pension income higher above a certain threshold

Thing is, whatever you do with society, and the tax structure within it, it will be held as unfair by some, because life is unfair, as anyone sleeping rough tonight will attest. It’s surely got to be about a structure that is fair to the most people.

Any the current system plainly isn’t.
Isnt the easiest solution just to tax everyone based on wealth ? A quick starter for 10 way to identify wealth is looking at paying more tax based upon the council tax rating of the property you live in and its market value. That would mean those "with the broadest shoulders" pay their fair share. You wont find many millionaires or wealthy people who are prepared to slum it in a 2 up 2 down terraced house in Burnley. Likewise for land and second homes but with an appropriate multiplier.

If you want wealth taxed before people die, that could be arranged.

It's more and more the case that people who die are leaving their estate to children who really don't need it. The "children" may well be retired in a house with no mortgage and a decent pension.

Now if we had a system where people paid enough tax to create a welfare state where you could rely on the state to give you a decent life in retirement, how much anxiety wouid that erase?

Bullshit.
Seriously? You have some evidence to counter all the surveys that show support for Brexit was higher the older you were?

(I understand the complaints about going over old ground about a decision made 7 years ago, but it does seem necessary sometimes.)

Because life isn’t fair. Do you actually think it is, or ever can be?

To make any society better, some people have to be treated unfairly.

Not arguing with that point, and certainly there are arguments for the very rich contributing to the greater need of others.

But for people of average means and levels of wealth I think it unreasonable to ask them to give up what they have worked hard to achieve. Which was my stance initially.

I certainly believe that there are those in society, and I believe this current government is guilty of not enforcing this, who should definitely contribute more without the quality of their life suffering hardship.

The silver spoon society who have not worked for their overall wealth are entitled, greedy and selfish in most cases, accepting that there will of course be exceptions.

Is that the very same surveys that predicted a resounding win for the remain vote? Yes I might just doubt them.

Complaints are justified, some dick always has to shoehorn Brexit into every fucking discussion.

so folk 'pay in' to a pension system all their working life and when it finally comes to them being recipient from that system (just so long as they don't die first) its unfair?
The state pension to me seems fair. The personal tax system is already progressive although there is a good argument for more at the top end. The real target for me is those organisations that create massive revenues in the UK whilst paying relatively little tax.
