Sterling racially abused by Chelsea fan?

When we played at Spurs last month I was following the game on Bluemoon Matchday Forum. A poster kept referring to Tottenham as "The Yids" which I thought was pretty disgusting and surprised it wasn't deleted.
Every club, and sadly our very own included, has an element of sub-intelligent morons. All a club with 50-60K+ fans can do is to make as much effort as possible to identify and then ban them for life.

I wonder what would have happened if Raheem had called over the ref and explained that he had just been racially abused and that he wanted the people arrested before he would continue the game.

That's what I thought he should have done. Even call over a steward or a cop and point the twat out there and then.

Having said that, there was a player recently that was sent off for trying to report an incident to the ref.

I thought spurs fans call themselves yids.

Did you report it?

I thought spurs fans call themselves yids.

I thought they did too, is the term "Yids" used a pejorative? I'm not too up to date with the nuances of words but if the Spurs fans want to use it as a word that solidifies them then it can't be that bad can it?

I'm ashamed to say I didn't, but I assumed a mod' must allowed it through. I haven't really studies this site's rules,T&C's etc but I will now.
'Mods' dont see everything....we have outside lives too.

In regards your comment, this has been discussed at length over the years in many threads, and while Spurs fans use that word to describe themselves then why should we find outrage on their behalf?

As said, report an issue if you have a concern. We rely on none sub intelligent morons to help in that respect ;-)

I haven't read all the thread by any means and I'm sure that the points I want to make have been made many times, but they should be made over and over again. I watched the match on TV and remember the "incident" very well. We couldn't tell what was being said to Raheem but we could see that it was distasteful in the extreme. I see every reason to accept that what was hurled at our player was vile, racist abuse. The calm dignity which Raheem displayed at all times was impressive in the extreme and was an example which we hope other players might show faced with similar provocation. If they are to behave in the exemplary way Raheem did, they must know and be certain that the authorities - the club, the FA, the police - will treat the culprit(s) in exemplary fashion. A lifetime ban should be the least of the sanctions, which should include stiff penalties handed down by the courts. Only when everyone sees that this kind of behaviour will be rooted out mercilessly and that every case will be punished severely will the game be free from this scourge. And Raheem is right, the press - at he very least, certain elements of it - carry a heavy responsibility: this is not an attack on Harry Kane, who seems a thoroughly decent lad - but the press make him a golden boy while making Raheem a whipping boy.

It will be interesting to see how this alters the default response at away games, where Sterling just gets booed out of some vague sense that he is somehow the villain. But a boo for Sterling from now on will be interpreted as criticism of his public stance against racism.
Let's wait and see. Raheem has shown great courage by taking on the tabloid press. The majority of decent match-going fans of all clubs know that their own players are often unfairly portrayed in papers like The Sun, Mail and Mirror. I think it will be much harder for fans to boo Raheem from now on with the possible exception of those at Klanfield.

Game shouldn’t be abandoned let’s knock that shite on the head firstly, I think that wouldn’t have even been mentioned had we won.

I don’t think it will ever be 100% resolved, in any walks of life there are dickheads everywhere, at a game where thousands upon thousands of people are it only takes one or even a handful to completely ruin it.

If there is any positives from this is that it’s been highlighted and hopefully makes people think before they do anything, hopefully that will come with the offenders getting a proper punishment. Nearly everything has been positive for Sterling from this and his post was perfect, I think we will see a different media towards him now which can only be a good thing.
