As I understood it, the banner was making a point entirely independent of the game, and indeed of whether Real Madrid are a better side than us or not. It related to an award that had been given fair and square, without fear nor favour, in the recent past. It had to be displayed at the game because that was the biggest platform for a riposte that was richly called for, from at least someone at the club, and which of course hadn't been given by anyone at the club, so had to be taken in hand by a section of the supporters — namely, that Real behaved like utter mardarses over a trophy that they had decided in advance was due one of their players. People on here talk about Arsenal level of entitlement. Real's level of entitlement is out of the stratosphere by comparison. Some journalists in Brazil even played the race card. Fuck them!
I had no strong feelings in favour of the banner, nor against it. Just thank Christ the supporters can still express themselves in this anesthetised, hygienised environment that is modern football!

If this was say Inter Milan doing it, the same people criticising it would be the same ones applauding it.

But because an English team have done it, it’s “cringey”, “small time” and “petty”.

Completely agree they have such short memories and happy to spout shit to fit their narrative. Its frustrating on such huge platforms as the overlap there is not someone city related there when the bashing is going on to give the perspective from our side. And no Jill Scott does not count.
