Storm Babet

We are ruining the planet , we should have been taking action in the seventies and eighties , we absolutely can do something , even this late

It is within the scope of the gov and water companies and councils to sort the other stuff out , you sound like anything we do is hopeless, it is not

I'm not saying everything is hopeless. Spending money on upgrading flood defences, improving drainage etc, would dramatically improve the situation. Spending in the 70s and 80s would have made a huge difference.

Ultimately however, nature is more powerful than we mere humans... We're only visiting the planet and can't hold back nature

Why? I think it's very sad, but Nature doesn't kill people on purpose. If people stay at home / follow official advice, the chances are that they'll be safe.

I'm not being nasty or cynical, just realistic.
A forecast allows people to prepare as best they can.

You‘d be the shittest environmental minister ever.

“Minister, what are we doing to prevent flooding and other storm damage to our infrastructures?”

“Nothing, weather is just weather, innit.”

My comment relates to the reported deaths of two people, not the flooding itself.

As I've already said, the impact on communities that we're currently experiencing is almost 100% due to historically poor planning on the part of local government.

You can't change the weather, you have to change / maintain the infrastructure. It's not rocket science.
