Weather forecasting is crucial to many businesses as well as the community in general. Getting upset at the naming of weather patterns, storms, showers of rain or whatever is petty. How can a local government know how the weather will progress over 50 years?
The storms we are getting are now far more frequent than in the past, with flash flooding popping up randomly around the country. Perhaps you have some psychic ability to prepare for where the next storm will hit.
This thread is about the current storm battering Scotland and Ireland mostly. The forecast and reporting of it has probably saved lives.
You don’t seem to think that forecasting weather is important.
It is to most people though.
We cannot control the weather but unless you don’t believe in climate change or more accurately, our part in it’s reality, then I would say that there is overwhelming evidence that we are in the middle of a change in what we would have believed to be normal seasonal patterns.
Whether this would be cyclical with or without us is not really that questionable in my mind. People will believe whatever they want.
But everything from the pollution, green house gases, to polar ice cap melting, to cutting down of forest which would naturally drain the soil, etc etc. have all contributed, no doubt.
And yes our own stupidity in building on natural flood plains doesn’t help us with the consequences.
Being petty over what we call a storm though, is well…. petty.
