Storm Babet

No. No I'm not. That's what you're reading. But it's not what I'm saying. But then, you don't appear to know what you're saying half the time in the thread.

You're talking about climate change, which imo is a completely different argument. I'm talking about coping with the weather as it is today, i.e. heavy rain that's overpowering inadequate drainage etc.

My comment relates to the reported deaths of two people, not the flooding itself.

As I've already said, the impact on communities that we're currently experiencing is almost 100% due to historically poor planning on the part of local government.

You can't change the weather, you have to change / maintain the infrastructure. It's not rocket science.
How can a local government know how the weather will progress over 50 years?

The storms we are getting are now far more frequent than in the past, with flash flooding popping up randomly around the country. Perhaps you have some psychic ability to prepare for where the next storm will hit.

This thread is about the current storm battering Scotland and Ireland mostly. The forecast and reporting of it has probably saved lives.

You don’t seem to think that forecasting weather is important.

It is to most people though.

We are ruining the planet , we should have been taking action in the seventies and eighties , we absolutely can do something , even this late

It is within the scope of the gov and water companies and councils to sort the other stuff out , you sound like anything we do is hopeless, it is not
Kaz, I get your point but in truth equally I get Lavinda too. When you say "We" you must think who the We are. The biggest polluters in the world are China and then the USA..As a nation I do feel we are doing our bit. Indeed I agree you can not control weather and more could be done to help people prone to flooding. However, when we started our Industrial Revoloution it was built on coal. We are moving on. The Chinese still use it massively and perhaps are way behind us in developing alternative sources of fuel. It perhaps is disingenuous to feel that as WE have moved on all other nations should move on as rapidly too. It takes time.

No.
We have affected it however, unless you are a climate change denier.

Of course we have, we've damaged it through something called progress. We've all benefited from it. Would you rather be living in an unlit cave?

Live by the sword, etc. We humans will ultimately get what we deserve.
