Strike on 30th June

Well, it certainly looks like there is little or no support for strikes, other than from public sector workers and they seem to be conceding this and don't seem too bothered. This, I feel, is the main reason why they will fail. To try to present a case to the rest of the populace as unfair, when that same populace is paying them and suffering far worse conditions, during times as they are at present, is a non-starter.
If they do hope to gain any ground at all, they do not need the support of Bob Crowe and his ilk. Whilst shit stirring commies like this are still in positions of power within unions they are doomed to failure. Ditch him and you may start to make progress.
Public sympathy has never won a strike it is the actions of the workers who have been victimised that will win any action .Some union leaders may be full of shit but that doesnt meen that the lowest paid workers should be shit on

-- Tue Jun 21, 2011 3:05 pm --

I hate HATE HATE unions. Lazy back slapping champagne socialist SCUM! If I see a 'picket line' I might they won't get a honk but more likely me turning sharply and mowing a few down.

Good on the posters wife who values work over trouble making lazy twunts.
well the next time the nurses are out on strike defending your local hospital or the firemen or ambulance men striking against closing your local station i hope you have a change of heart

cyber i see what you are doing here...all the emotive subjects!! very good!

Look at British airways.... best paid in the business, best conditions! the unions have strangled them to get their own way! No worries from them about bringing a british icon to their knees!

Interestingly the chief union negotiater called off the strike for a few weeks for dialogue.........guess what..............yep him and his mrs flew abroad for one of his annual holidays!

What if BA went bust over it??? unions wouldn t give ashit thats for sure!

While i'm on a bout it how can a union order a ballot and they get a low turnout (say 35%) and they can still call a strike!? Unions are bullies!

Employment law protects employees NOT unions!
Well most people didnt vote for the coalition goverment but it didnt stop them forming one .people will vote with there feet if they dont want to go on strike they wont .but will moan in years to come when there pension is worth squat .if BA went bust of course the union members would give a shit as they would not have a job .is a union negotiator not allowed hollidays ?

Asinine is one word ;-)

It's impossible to shake the feeling that if Labour were introducing these cuts, we wouldn't be hearing half as much sabre ratlling from his like. I feel the same could be said of many on this forum tbh with you.

Actually Prentis is on the right of the union, he is only seeming vaguely militant now because his members are standing up and speaking out, the Unison bureaucracy is one of the biggest and hardest to force to actually doing what its members want, and its members want action, as proved by the vote yesterday by Local Government section for industrial action before autumn.

This exactly, the NEC elections this year sent a message to him, with Left members getting every post available in the North West

I've just got home from it. Tremendous 30 minute speech from Dave Prentis; received a standing ovation.

My speech followed about an hour later and didn't get a standing ovation, but I managed to work both the "Welcome to Manchester" banner and the "This is Our City" line into it so I'm happy with that.

-- Tue Jun 21, 2011 6:26 pm --

i'd sabre rattle just a s loudly I promise.
Prentis' line about only supporting labour mps who support public sector industrial action struck a chord with me
no more easy rides for labour either
