Stuart Brennan. MEN.

He's a good journo is Stuart Brennan, and he writes some excellent stuff about City. Prefer him to some muppet who just direct prints PR releases straight from City.

I think his lack of City fanaticism helps give him a more rational eye than some of the foamers and I can't remember reading many articles and thinking "this guy phoned it in".

Well, with all due respect to him I thought he phoned his Mancini book in a little for his pre-City history but it came alive when he had more hands on experience.

(hi Damo good to see you back, happy ny and all that arse :) )

Yeah i feel it is a genuine shame for other footy reporters there, i may be wide of the mark here though.
Spencers pretty startling childishness could hamper others there who are not bloggers with a grand platform and want to get on in the business.
As i say i may be well off but i would not exactly be happy if i was a junior footy reporter at the MEN, also i would not exactly look at him as i would say Martin Samuels.

-- Wed Jan 08, 2014 5:29 pm --

Hello blue moon, this post is not a rant nor to pour scorn or praise just a note to Stuart should he ever look here still.

After your defense on here of your position i was "on your side" so to speak just so you know.

However due to seeing the format of blue v red and seeing the airtime Mr Peter Spencer has had to spout his guff...and it is guff.
I have decided that my choice to not buy the paper is well founded. The reason being partly the above and my desire to simply have fair balanced reportson all issues regarding football journalism.
This may be an unrealistic ideal in modern society but it should not be, i subscribe to the times and but the independent for this reason.
Ian Herbert is someone i now take notice of, not because of brown nosing us but his objective reporting.
If i want an impassioned rant i read forums or blogs. The format you have promotes this petty standard imo.

You in yourself may be fine but after seeing this Peter Spencer all over the place venting his spleen it (for me anyway) compromises the integrity i (maybe naively) automatically give to what seems to be a reputable media outlet.

I know my single sale will not hurt profits and nor is my non purchasing of your publication some kind of protest at any perceived slights i may feel if any.
I am not angry, my only outward reaction was a slight nod to my own wariness after hearing his name for the 4th time.

You seem a sound bloke tbh but yeah this is just my two pence worth on the structure of your (MEN) reporting.
I do admit it is hard to format against the "vs" tone, but Peter Spencer does not help those of you with genuine aspirations of growing in your positions at the MEN.

Reasonable post, mate, until you got to Herbert. His pieces on the rags earlier this season were pure lickspittle.

Herbert by name...

Totally agree although he's toned it down of late. Probably realised which way the wind is blowing.

A comment i expected i may have to qualify that lloydie so fair one that.

I would say yeah you would be right, and you could interchange maybe 4 other "noted" reporters names with his...to an extent.
I have defo noticed a more balanced tone recently, go back to at least his report on us v Arse, it was the only one that tallied with blues with not blue specs exactly but a half full outlook.
He at least demonstrated to me he does know the score.

The landscape is different now post ferguson much to the shame of all these reporters no doubt.
One major fact was though he hurt individuals livelihoods due to them doing no more than their job.
This inspired fear and subservience to a degree, banned reporters, refused interviews etc etc.

Now that stranglehold is gone to a massive degree it should i hope inspire objectivity more.
Looking beyond the cheap shot stuff at utd i can sense the tone or reporting changing for the better.

What i would say lloydie is if you can, swallow it and give these sods another chance, some are just rag mouth pieces but some were just spineless or forced to toe the line.
If you can't then i totally see you pov mate, i do.

Last season one freelance reporter even contacted a mod here saying this was exactly the case and if he did step out of line and got banned from ot he was fucked.

Some interesting points TCIB, however I do believe the spineless toads should have stood up to him and the scum
There are some who are clear sycophants, Spencer, Bates, the uglier Custis, Ashton etc but only two journos come out of this unscathed in my opinion, and it's only those two that I shall be giving the time of day to
Martin Samuel and Henry Winter, although an honourable mention to Jonathan Northcroft who sat on the fence.

Ian Herbert has been right up there with Ogden,Bates,Jackson and the other rag fuckers writing some horrible articles on our club.
Grade A c unt.

As for Winter he does seem right on board with us now
And it's great watching him keep ridiculing Shaun custis abt our academy on the supplement

Still grates me though when he shot his mouth off at mancini's first press conference, wasn't good from him.
