If the above People story is true, who else feels this is a terrible shame, to lose such a promising young player.

I feel this is one player we could regret losing, but I do not know who to blame. Academy players are ones we should seek to keep. I heard MH was not keen on him, which if true is a shame. Some feel he is being too greedy, whatever is true Chelsea must be prepared to meet his wage demands if this story is true.

Certainly there is no way in my mind that he deserves to be paid £50k/week and I would be amazed if even mega spending Chelsea had offered him this. I do not believe this wage claim I think it is grossly exaggerated, £20k would be a big wage for such a young, premiership unproven player; albeit very promising.

Yes I know we have been around the block a few times on Sturridge threads, but I am still interested in what others feel on Danny possibly leaving.

Would be absolutely gutted as i have always said he will be a star. I think he could be a surprise inclusion in the world cup squad too if he plays games next season. Hope it is with us, but Chelsea have been desperate for years to get hold of him. Why oh why is he out of contrct. Just read this article, a view saying he should quit.

In life, as in the work place, one has to stand up for oneself and avoid situations which could see you being “walked all over” by companies, bosses, or colleagues, if you are to make a success of your career.

Daniel Sturridge is a bright young prospect who graduated to Manchester City’s main office in 2006 and has since proven to be one of England’s brightest young stars. His performances have been made even more impressive considering the form of players such as Stephen Ireland and Robinho.

For the 19-year-old forward to be upstaging such famous names is surely a sign of what is to come.

There is no doubt in my mind that if Manchester City hadn’t been bought over this summer, Sturridge would be a first team regular, probably in place of Brazilian superstar Robinho.

Unfortunately, as with any business, new owners means restructuring, new goals, and new ideas.

Or in the case of Manchester City, much more money and redecorating.

We have already established that Daniel had an encouraging start to this season and impressed many with his flair, confidence, and ability over the first half of the season, but where was his reward at promotion time?

Sturridge must have been sure his performances would be enough for more time on the pitch and a bumper new contract, seeing as his deal with the company expires in the summer. In essence, the former England youth international was looking for a promotion.

Did he get that promotion?

No, he did not. He was overlooked for promotion as the club brought in Craig Bellamy, a player so loyal he has scored for six Premier League clubs.

A bitter blow for a young man in any situation, never mind a player with the world at his feet.

Had I been in that situation, I may have been very tempted to run down my contract and leave at the end of the season, and this is what I believe Sturridge should do.

You see, come the end of the season, Manchester City will sign someone else, then someone else, and so on.

Sturridge however (all credit to him) opened contract talks with City over a new deal, only to be told he was asking for far too much money. Yip, sounds like life to me. Players such as Craig “I’ll be here for a season” Bellamy can hold “his” club to ransom, but they will do “their own” no favours.

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has criticised Sturridge’s money hungry advisors for his supposed wage demands of £65,000 a week, but we didn’t hear him criticising his club's relentless chase for Kaka when any possible deal would have been based on money, not a desire to play for the club.

I personally think Sturridge is getting a raw deal at City and he would be far better off under, say, Martin O’Neill at Aston Villa. However, any move to Villa—and remember, he is a Birmingham native—would mean running down his contract.

And if I had the choice between sitting on the bench next season or playing UEFA Champions League football with possibly England’s most exciting side, it would be a pretty easy choice to make.

No wonder he wants a bumper pay deal to stay at City.

Sturridge is simply standing up to be counted and refusing to be walked all over. In life we call such people, “winners."

would you play sturridge before bellamy?

Don't get emotional.

SWP was substantially older than Sturridge is now when he made the move, and Lampard was disliked by his own fans at West Ham.

If you are good enough, it's possible to sustain a place at Chelsea, and there's a drive to give affirmitive action to English players that are of a certain quality, Mancienne, Cork and hopefully Sturridge will be part of our future for a long time.

Zoffie joined this forum yesterday, just to debate this thread. Do not be emotional he/she said. They sound likew the Chelsea publicity machine working overtime. Danny we love you, ignore the knockers we will pick you ahead of Drogba, Anelka, and SWP was different do not worry. Look at our Chelsea youth policy, we love young players, we would never go out and buy a £30m world class striker and play them ahead of you, you know we would'nt.

Well Danny if it is not all about money and ego, join a premiership club that will play you week in week out, then you can prove yourself and choose any team in the world if you are good enough.

Chelsea would be worse than City and you might be lucky to be even the third choice striker.

I'd agree with what most have said on this thread. It's always nice to have a promising prospect in the squad, one that is determined to be the best he can. However, this lad is just a kid and needs to realise that he can't expect to con the club into a ridiculous contract from a few substitutions and the odd start.

We will get paid even if his contract is up, but some will go to Coventry. The valuations are hit and miss though, we would probably only get about £2M if lucky.
Are you absolutely sure? If a guy's contract expires, doesn't he become a free agent?

when he has started he has at best looked ordinary, however coming on as a sub against a tired defence he has looked good, shows promise but is a million miles away from the finished article

What I find interesting is a Chelsea fan signing up to a City board to plead with a City player to join his club so he can "hopefully" become a future first choice...how times change indeed.

You have got to be,either a member of his family or his agent.
He has done nothing,to warrent, this sort of money.
He is the most over-hyped player,I have seen at City, and has lived off England school boy apperances.
Talk is cheap Danny boy, keep yourself fit,get on the pitch and prove yourself.
The rewards will then come

I rate Sturridge.
But he's injury prone, still has much to learn and is nowhere near the finished article he seemingly believes he is.
I've watched him since his youth team days and he and Kelvin Etuhu were both "big time boys" on the pitch.....often head and shoulders above the other players technically but as another poster has said-often appearing lazy and disinterested.
Sturridge has the talent to make it-hopefully with us-but if he feels he can get a better deal at the likes of Villa for the sake of biding his time and keeping his head down at City then good luck and don't slam the door,Daniel.
