Sunderland post match thread

I think the young fullbacks would of been perfect for that role, better passers, brains and energy. Those two today are polar opposites, awkward excess baggage who nullify the system.

Fuck me, kdb is overated. Hahahahaha.

Willy 6.5 good saves, decent distribution.
Sagna 6.5 tireless as ever, tidy
stones 8 one of the most intelligent 22 year olds to ever grace that pitch. Star
kolarov 7 inconsistent as fuck, but at times he looked brilliant. Good game.
dinho 8 already on peps wavelength
silva 7 not his best, but ok.
kdb 6 struggled as most of the game went hrough silva, but took charge later on.
nolito 6 meh. Good inside forward, unconvinced about a winger though.
sterling 8.5 MOTM brilliant. The boy done good.
aguero 6.5 linked up well, good goal, but not up to his usual standards.
pep 8.5 he man is a genius.
Goodnight blues. All in all, its been a hell of a day.
Fuck, i forgot clichy. 7.5 very good player, and starting to prove it. Playmaker!

I just don't get KDB, why don't I see a world class player when so many on here do??? He plays like Milner, I just don't know how he's rated so high. He cant beat a man at all and I think we'd be better off with Nasri back in the side.
This crap hurts the eyes

Really interesting to see how pep has changed the team's shape today. How anybody can criticize the team or a player today is laughable. Effort was excellent. We will grow, develop and evolve.
Good times people!

I think his 'off days' end up in a decent performance. His good days are fantastic. That's the mark of a player who is a cut above the majority.
Nasri had days when he was great, but his off days were dire. That's the difference.

KdB controls the game far more than Nasri ever did. Nasri had many skills, but he never controlled a game. Nor was he very much of a passer over anything more than 15 yards.

Milner was very good - he played with a lot of conviction, but he didn't have the grace of KdB, nor the pace.

KdB is better than both, by some margin.

Rusty in a word but understandable at this stage. Please no horrendous injury issues like last season / already couldnt start with sane and Iki not a good start for us is it.

Delph could have had a tap-in for his efforts to get up in support if Kelechi had given the easy ball.
Really hope he doesn't try too hard to impress this season. He's got plenty of quality and we'd all be happy if he scored fewer but assisted more in situations like that.

Same against Arsenal last season, cost us the win. Needs more awareness, less greediness. Notice Delph had a right go at him..

Honestly? Waas rather anonymous and from the very limited amount i've seen of him so far i don't see what he brings to the side. Reasonably intelligent link up play but ultimately lacks the pace to be effective and doesn't seem to be very capable of beating a man mainly due to the iron boots he wears. First half in particular he linked up well with Silva, got into some great positions but was as obvious as they come and couldn't capitalise on it. Before somebody jumps on me, i'm obviously not passing judgement on him yet just commenting on what we've seen of him thus far
Does that include the three times he took on his man and beat him, twice in the box, once resulting in narrowly missing with a curling effort, the other a great rolling pass that for some reason the receiving player decided not to hit first time? For the first 25 minutes he was wreaking havoc and then Sunderland began dropping and double covering to stop it.

He did not set the world a light but he was actually fairly good while he was on. And, although you said you are not passing judgement, I think saying "so far I don't see what he brings to the side" from his first competitive performance is doing just that. How many said the same thing about Silva, Yaya, or Kompany? I actually remember getting in to a bit of heated debate with a fellow blue that thought Kompany was an utter waste of money and could not understand why we bought such a "precious" defensive midfielder.

Anyway, that's my daily rant done.

I think angelino should have gotten the start based on how we ended up playing throughout the game

Interesting performance. We moved the ball well at times, but the tempo was allowed to drop too often. With players still getting up to speed, that's understandable. Can't wait to see Gundogan play, as I think he'll be the one to dictate the pace.

You have to notice that pep disregard the passing to the defenders and let the goalkeeper launch it up field. He as realised we haven't the players who are good enough to play out from the back

The effort he had was a great effort, wouldn't class that as beating his man though personally, more making a yard for himself to have an effort. There was plenty of times in the first half where he was involved in some good play, some nice passing and moving with Silva but when released he didn't seem to have either the pace or the skill to go past the isolated defender. Like i said, i was simply judging the performance, i am not making a judgement on him as a player, just like i thought KDB was shit today, doesn't mean i think he's shit.

As for the other players mentioned, i was convinced all of those would be stars and i don't believe Nolito is anywhere near that level. I see him as a squad option and don't expect him to start when everyone is fit. More than happy for him to prove me wrong though.

I must have missed the season Milner scored 16 goals and got 14 assists for us.
Tbf he got 10 and assisted 14 last season for Liverpool. I'm not saying Milner is as good, but KDB isn't that much greater than Milner. Silva in his prime is what I expected with the hype around KDB but I don't see that sort of player in him. I hope I'm wrong and he puts in some cracking performances obviously.

if you are a City fan you don't sound like one at all, In fact you seem to go out of your way to be negative. I do not say this as i feel slighted in anyway, your logic simply does not add up with the reality. You may say that is my opinion but it is not just mine, i dare say the amount of City fans that feel the same as you vs those who don't amounts to tangible evidence you are very wrong. Stats without context could make me look like the worlds most ideal human but i bet i am not. Anyone can isolate stats without context, that is what you do to opposing teams to have a laugh at them, why do it to the team you purport (imo) to support? or did you just happen to miss most of the matches he was in?

In many games he was the stand out player on the pitch by a country mile, even redcafe gave him that.
