Ibra is already closing in at that stage and is less than a yard or two away when Fernando takes his first (poor) touch.
The standard pass would have been to otamendi who was to the side who would have had an option in front or back to the keeper.
It wasn't the right choice for me.

not sure Ibra was that close and Hart was telling him to pass it on to Ota immediately. I have no idea if Joe had warned Nando about Ibra but to be fair Nando should have been more aware. I simply cant see why Joe should shoulder much, if any, blame here

Mistakes happen. He makes very few. He makes far fewer than his outfield players do. He's a cracking 'keeper and great City man so he has grace with me for the odd mistake. I'd barely say it was his mistake anyway.

Here's my view on Joe Hart. I don't class him as one of the best Goalkeepers in the world and I would probably have him only 4th best in the PL (Behind Lloris, De Gea, Cech, Courtois) BUT i wouldn't swap him for anyone in world football, he 'gets' city

He has many areas to improve on but as someone has mentioned, Goalkeepers usually get better with age (Look at Van Der Sar, I think he was 34+ when he moved to United), Joe's got another 10 years +. But then there's areas where i think he excels to his peers, shot stopping, penalty saving, leadership etc. I've also heard from a good source he is instructed by Foreign GK coaches/Managers not to catch the ball in & around the 6 yard area, to always punch - The logic being it's less risky to punch in that area than attempt a catch and drop it.

And to the poster who said he's not a Leader or Vocal - really? I'd had him as skipper all day of the week when VK isn't fit, clearly fits the bill of a 'leader'

Lets get behind him, we're lucky to have him.

Rather than look at stills I'd rather Look at what actually happened. If he was further than a couple of yards away when Fernando took his touch he wouldn't have been in the position to Score.
People get too defensive when it comes to Hart. The Ter Stegan thread proves that beyond doubt. I understand why, I've done it myself on Silva and Kompany threads.

No he gave it to a 28 year old veteran of over 180 top level matches. Nando should be expected to be able to control it sufficiently given that the pressure you refer him to be under was well over ten yards away (as per video earlier) and the point someone made re the time the ball takes to travel should be taken into account is laughable. Regarding the second point don't you agree that 90% of the time JH is getting slaughtered on here for his distribution (namely the fact he kicks it long). So isn't it a bit odd to be having a pop at him for playing a short ball?

You must have misread the tone of my post, i'm 100% blaming Fernando for the goal. Was more alluding to the fact at how bizarre it was, with the points being; we never play it out from the back against top teams and when we finally do we play it to a player thats not exactly comfortable and ultimately give away a bloody stupid goal.

Do it yourself mate, pause the replay when Nando takes the touch and you'll see he was almost 5 yards away, besides the touch was completely unnecessary anyway, he had three options if he'd just played it first time.

I kinda did yeah but am at work and should really get some done lol. the point I guess I was trying to make is that Nando ain't no green behind the gills youth player, he should be able to be relied on to control a simple pass equally to Silva or Toure

Zero blame for Hart on their first. Playing it short is something we need to do more, long punts are pointless for us. He had plenty of space when he received the ball.

Nando had time to control, pass back to Hart, or pass to either side. He was just a bit casual, complete lapse in concentration.

Shame, as he played very well.

He was close enough to cut the ball out after a poor touch from Fernando. The rest is just our own interpretation of the rights and wrongs of the situation. I thought it was the wrong pass, others don't. I'm not going to get hung up on it. I've watched it enough since last night to form my opinion, as have you. We obviously disagree.
