some fans on here are pathetic telling shaun to get us into the top for before he gets a new contact you obviously have forgotten some of the stuff he has done for us. Shaun deserves a new contract, he always played his heart out for city, even when we were shit he gave us moments to enjoy, all he wants is secure contract so that he knows he can stay at city, the club he loves, its the least he deserves.

cook and marwood sort it out, because my respect for you is slowly disappearing!

Shauny with his flag always makes me laugh in this.

What a fcuking day that was mate, how many city fans were there that day??

Sweep's 'heartfelt' interview reeks of hypocrisy IMO. Now i love the little fella as much as the next fan, but... if it was just to enable him to see out his career and beyond, isn't caning marwood and cook in the press, not damaging the very heart of the club he loves?
I think his old man is in his head, and yes normally, a parent's opinion is in the best interest, but this time it has the opposite affect. Sweep should continue to give his all, when called upon and the rest should take care of itself!

I love SWP but he's starting to piss me off. If he's not careful he's going to start to alienate the City fans.

Bang on Pasta. 2 1/2 years left on your contract and the club don't want to discuss it now. There is plenty of time to sort it so stop washing your dirty linen in public. If it weren't for your camp - you and your dad - this wouldn't even be in the public domain. Maybe your 'advisors' should earn their cut and ADVISE YOU that Manchester City are not a club that will be dictated to by players anymore. For the record I would love him to stay for the next 5 years but he is going the wrong way about it.

Cynically using the fans to try and better his position won't go unnoticed. We are not stupid. You are playing very dangerous game Shauny.

Over the next few years City will be buying some of the very best players out there. Just a question: in one, two or three years time will SWP be our first choice right winger?

Don´t think he is an automatic selection NOW. Johnson and Bellamy are the preferred wide players. And given what I have seen that´s abour right.

The idea of giving a bench warmer a pay rise is a bit daft. Also all this talk of loyalty. Well he did leave us a few years back to join a better team. The irony is he rejoined us and we have since moved on.

I reckon this time next year he will be getting very few games. So in that case Marwood and Cook have got it about right. There is no hurry to extend his contract from the clubs point of view.

I think a bit of careful financial restraint would not go amiss bearing in mind the financial hits we are going to take on Jo, Robinho, Caicedo etc

From the club's perspective, I'm not sure it's about the extra £10k a week or so - surely it's the contract length? Sweep is 28 now, a 5 year deal means he'll be 33. To be a potenitally paying a winger £60k or £70k a week when he may well have lost his pace doesn't seem sensible to me.

Spot on, we have a few players who have contracts going on into their mid 30's now and for players who rely on pace that is a dodgy prospect. We shouldn't be signing anyone onto a contract that takes them past 31 years old unless it is an option that can be taken by the club. The only positions where 33/34 year olds can usually get away with it are CBs and GK, maybe holding midfielders.

vieira's just called. he says your wrong

If he want's a five year deal he will be like Danny Mills toeards the end of it. On a huge contract which makes him unsellable as City should have progressed to regular chimps league placing; and much better players will be here making Sweep look like Buster Phillips.

That's my point. I was using the future to highlight the best, but also least likely, scenario that SWP can expect. I'm with you, he isn't necessarily our first choice now, so to give him what he is asking only benefits, at this moment in time, one party, and that's SWP, not the club. In my eyes, the interest of the club should always comes first, therefore it's a no brainer; keep the contract in the drawer City.

i can understand whys he`s pissed off, when all these new players are coming in with better contracts and not better cv`s.If RSC, Kolo dejong even Adebayor were being paid considerably more then he has every right to be pissed off with city.I dont think the problem is however the amount, the fact is these new boys are getting far too much.City need to stop bringing in average players and putting them on over 100k a week.
SWP PR machine his dad always goes about it the wrong way and makes shauny look like the bad guy.I too would love to see shaun play out of his skin in these last 11 games score a few goals and create five or six.

I'm sorry, but he signed the contract and agreed the wage. It shouldn't be any of swp's concern what people around him are earning. I'm not wild about the idea that the likes of Toure are on £100,000 p/w but it is what it is. My boss earns more than me. That doesn't mean I can go and demand a new contract and a pay rise and parity.

Also, what is this shite with footballers demanding new contracts two years before their existing contract expires? Bollocks. How the fuck do City know how much SWP is going to be worth in season 2011, when he's over thirty? Might be crocked by then.

Jesus, if you were on £60,000 p/w, would you really be so retarded as to believe you were being mistreated and taken advantage of by your employer. I do not think so. Footballers make me cringe sometimes.

first, i dont know why he went to the papers to state his case, its better to go to cook and sort it out, secound , just do what you did a few years back, get past defenders, put decent crosses in and score a few goals, and third, GET US TO 4TH PLACE and then lets see what happens

It's all being instigated by his arrogant prick of a step father who now seems to saying it isn't the money, it's the fact that SWP is being made to play when injured. I don't know it that's true but I tend to think not.

Don't you wish you could fall in love with City players like you did with this team ? The whole club was together it was like a family. How times have changed.

No! They took us straight back down, remember.

At the moment i am comforting myself with the thought that the level of abuse being

aimed at SWP at the moment is coming from RAGS on this site

if you are blues you ought to be ashamed of yourselves

have a reasoned debate by all means

other than that,if you are BLUES ,listen to yourselves

and get a fucking grip,

2yrs to go on a contract is pretty much the norm for a player/agent to re-negotiate terms

and a 25% rise is also, lets see what happens eh

Yeh I suppose you're right I bet it was a whole different feeling on the terraces that following May. Oh well I still thought it was a fantastic day for the club as a whole.

I was absolutely fuming when I read this. I will say it again, Shaun has let himself and the fans down with all of this. He has been crap this season, has only had a handful of good games since he came back from Chelsea and to be honest if he came to me asking for more money I would tell him where to go.

If it is really about 'wanting to stay here forever' he should be signing whatever city put on the table (assuming it is not a decrease in his wages) and stop whinging.

If it is about wanting more money...well if I were Mancini I would call him into my office, explain that bad-mouthing the club in the national press is unprofessional behaviour, fine him a weeks wages and tell him that if he wants more money on an extended contract then he better get his little arse in gear and start doing some talking on the pitch.

Very dissapointed.
