SWP on left, Petrov on right, sub a sub = Tactically inept

It's more of a strategic thing rather than tactic.

Everton pressed and forced us to play long ball. Not enough possession. Not enough men in the midfield. Remember even Arsenal who's so good at passing fount it difficult to gain a rythm against them. Good job Moyes.

If the squad had trained with the 4-3-1-2 formation it would have been different because that formation allowed better domination of the centre of the field.

Lets hope we can carry on. The real thing can only happen in the next season.

If you knew anything about tactics, you would know that playing players on the opposite wing can actually be very effective. Especially when they don't have a tall player to aim at in the middle.

Clueless twat.

And here's me thinking that we were supposed to be getting over Hughes, I'm sure there is at least one poster in this thread that has been telling all and sundry that the comparisons between Mancini and Hughes must stop, but has suddenly changed his mind after our first loss.

As to the tactics, I would have bought Benjani on for RSC, and don't like SWP on the left or Petrov on the right. But I'm not going to start calling a manager that has won 4 of his first 5 matches tactically naive, that would just be silly.

Still, if you've been desperately waiting a long 4 weeks to make a point I can see how you'd go a bit over the top in your criticism.

Considering MH came under so much criticism what's the excuse now?........hope the change of manager doesn't cost us on Tuesday, not looking forward to it now :(

Your mate has gone, get over it!

i don't understand bob playing swp and petrov on the wrong wings. the rest is trail in combat. all the players are getting a chance to prove what they have in the heat of battle.

for 18 months i heard nothing but give it time, be patient we need continuity and stability to gel. well Hughes got 240 mil and 18 months, bob has got viera on a free plus wages and on yesterdays capitulation in midfield i think he could well be right. hand full of games in and your trying to prove a stupid point IMO

Let's not rewrite history. The OP might not have put it very well but Hughes would have been slated for those subs today.

Should have been Benjani for RSC, then SWP for Petrov. Then later on I would have swapped Bellamy for Robinho, just to save Bellers' legs a bit (plus he wasn't that good today) or perhapes brought on one of the defenders and moved Zab into midfield, where he might have been more effective.

benjani isn't very fit, and that's why he didn't start and nor was he put on in the 1st 5 mins.
Otherwise we continued a tactic that has been successful for us recently! The plan fell apart with the midfield failing to do it's job.

I cant see allot wrong, apart from the dire effort from the players. The point should be , Hughes wasn't capable of making tactical adaptions. He would of never tried to change it at halftime.

We not going to get far with benjani and garridos of the world. But at the moment were making do. 3 of hughes 1st team back four not available, no adebayor ireland or vieira and only half fit players on the bench. Get real guys! Some of you, rubbing your hands together waiting for a chance to criticise after Hughes has gone!

Spot on with the bold as far as I`m concerned.
The worrying thing for me is that we seem very predictable in our pattern of play from Shay, I`m surprised that other teams recently haven`t done exactly what Everton did yesterday and to the same extent.

WTF??

Yes Mancini got a couple of things wrong today - that's 1 match out of 5 so far, I wish Hughes had been as good.

actually hughes was better. at least defensively 2 defeats in 20 is better than 1 in 5, or did i get my maths wrong there.

i'm not pro hughes or anti-mancini, just pro city. and it kind of winds me up the way hughes outers (and others) seem to be looking at mancini through blue tinted spectacles. he's won 4 eminently winnable games, then when the bar was raised a notch he's fallen. mancini still has it all to do for me, but fingers crossed that he can prove himself better than hughes.

roll on tuesday so we can put this behind us.
