My step daughter is 'half caste'... and that is the description she uses. So is she being ignorant and rude or clueless or out of touch... load of bollocks!

I despise that term. Its outdated, and just sounds so cringeworthy in a 21st century context.

How about "water under the bridge", "let bygones, be bygones", "there but for the grace of god go I", really in a 21st century context! world war 2 is still world war 2, I have a young girl working for me who referred to herself and her sisters as being half caste, "My dad's white and my mums black". Mixed race, well I'm mixed race, English, welsh, Irish and Jewish and very good value too.

You cannot compare phrases that people used to say 40 or so years ago, or the name of an event over 60 years ago, with a racial term used to pigeonhole certain people. I'm not bothered that you know someone uses it, for me its not okay, and it bothers me when I hear it used. Is calling people niggers okay, because Jay-Z, and other rappers do it? And you're not "mixed race" as there is no really such thing as an "English" or an "Irish" race.
