It certainly gives that initial impression but scratch beneath the surface and you'll see that it really isn't. I guess it depends on the metric you use for safety but it has over 4 times the murder rate of the UK for example and much higher than its neighbouring countries, 10 times more likely to die in a car accident etc.

Not sure population density on its own makes much difference. We're the 51st most densely populated country in the world. Those above us are a mixture ranging from basket cases through to doing alright thank you. Similarly those around us are a mixed bag too.

Rather than focusing on that i'd have thought we'd be better off as a population on trying to get out of the habit of voting in governments that clearly don't represent the interests of the majority of the population. To do this we'd need to get better at a few things like ignoring the torrent of factually incorrect shit and propaganda that gets spewed out by the likes of the Daily Mail and large chunks of the rest of our media that are controlled by a tiny coterie of very rich people.

As you say things have well and truly gone to the dogs, so I reckon us taking a different approach is worth a try.
