It certainly gives that initial impression but scratch beneath the surface and you'll see that it really isn't. I guess it depends on the metric you use for safety but it has over 4 times the murder rate of the UK for example and much higher than its neighbouring countries, 10 times more likely to die in a car accident etc.Aside from the political issues, Thailand is one of the safest countries, I lived 5 years there, thai people are very kind and humble.
