Bye...never been his biggest fan. I can see, of course, how his style has helped at times but his lack of top class shot stopping has also cost us. People go on about the CL Final and the few saves he made there, mainly because it's the only game they can recall where he actually saved us.
Cost us big time in other big CL moments...Lyon QF, Feyenoord last season, Madrid H & A 22 (didn't save anything over 2 legs despite our dominance of both games), Liverpool A QF, Spurs home 2021 QF, presenting Havertz (who'd had an abysmal 1st season and had rock bottom confidence) with an open goal in the Final by charging out the box.
The fact he has been available for nearly 2 years and no other recognised top tier club has shown any interest in him should say it all to many, but most are blinded by his ability with passing/kicking. Was becoming increasingly worse at judging when to come out and "tackle" attackers outside the box and penalty saving record during 90 minutes was appalling.
So, thanks Eddie for being part of our success and good luck. Yeah, I know Eddie has his fans on here and they'll all be weeping into their lattes over his departure but there's more to being a good GK than just being a good passer of the ball.
Hopefully, our new GK will show that in due course. He did it last season in the CL games v Liverpool, Villa and Arsenal when he played a huge part in getting PSG through those ties.
