the aftermath

Effin Love Tolmie's Hairdoo me. 'came into the dressing room'. You were there then? I'm going to have a game and guess you are a player? I'm going to go for Nedum, simply because that is the first name to pop in my head. I don't believe in ITK's, but you certainly must be someone connected to the club, very much connected based on the way you phrased your post. Nice one.
Keep us all up to date with up and coming transfers.

Just read my post through and comes across a bit sarccy, its not meant too, its a genuine post.

Not sure if he is a player but probably someone who is very close with one of the players.

Have a better first touch than Ned...and second...

As for comings and goings, the way the recruitment process now happens at our club, it would be folly to now try and second guess Mancini.

He keeps his cards very close to his chest, indeed. I would wager some of the names will be obscure, something I personally consider no bad thing.

Transfer targets invariably only leak when the flagging-up goes 'upstairs'.

Yeah, but can you pass to yourself? ;-)

Nice one for the info, will be keeping a keen eye out but I agree with you it would be silly to try and guess names at the minute. One thing I do believe will happen is that Bob will go all out for Ibrahimovic. Personally, money providing, we could get worse players but he never does it v the English clubs. Most likely talking bollocks, but going off him playing for Bob in Italy, I think they had a good footballing relationship and he'll want him here as 'his' striker. We'll have to see I guess, but it'll be a good summer I think.

Think most top managers ideally want to work with a base of around 25.

I agree, there will be quality additions. However, nowhere near as many as the outgoings led to believe.

The squad is top heavy with high earners, the requirement to supplement wthis with homegrown players by UEFA in the coming seasons ahead, etc.

D'you fancy listing who you think the outgoing players will be...?

I really have no clue, Billy. Pretty sure any blue on here would be able to compile their own list of probables.

Albeit, led to understand messrs Ireland, SWP and Ned, would all have futures under Bobby.

That, I like. Only in the respect, they are homegrown and Mancini clearly has a particular mindset.

It's apparent he has worked with some of the best players in the world, can form opinions of character and the requirements he personally needs.

I do personally (IMO) believe we may have to say goodbye to Tevez, Ade and Bellers - certainly two of them.

If that was the case we would need incomings of the same amount. The squad isn't big enough as it stands to undergo a European campaign.

Our base is currently around 24.

1. GK Given
2. GK Hart

3. RB Richards
4. RB Zabaleta

5. LB Bridge
6. LB Garrido

7. CB Lescott
8. CB Toure
9. CB Kompany
10. CB Onuoha

11. LM Bellamy
12. LM Petrov
13. LM Robinho

14. RM Johnson
15. RM SWP
16. RM Weiss

17. CM Barry
18. CM Vieira
19. CM De Jong
20. CM Ireland
21. CM Johnson

22. CF Tevez
23. CF Adebayor
24. CF Santa Cruz

If 10 of these were to leave we'd need an ultra aggressive recruitment spree in the summer. We already satisfy the home grown rule here quite comfortably, but are allowed to register 25 players ages over 21. If say, 5 of the above go, that gives us 6 places to fill

Hopefully not Carlos

Too many bad buys last Summer, Toure, Adebayor, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Lescott and from the previous January De Jong. I was pleased with the Barry capture, (he was magnificent last night and they took charge after he departed as they ran the midfield) and of course our 1 world class player Tevez, but the failure to significantly reinforce central midfield was criminal and has been our downfall this season. The reliance by hughes and mancini on de jong (although for once he was okay last night) has led to our midfield being over run at times and going forward has led to a complete lack of support ,putting too much pressure on the many widemen bought to deliver and tevez to create something out of nothing, as well as barry himself in midfield. Further forward Ade is just not good enough with no through balls to un on to.

My clear out would be Toure, adebayor, de jong and santa cruz....i'd keep lescott and bridge in the hope they improve but would certainly buy two class full backs and a centre half. Recall Hart in goal. A completely new midfield and one, maybe two strikers.

I know what price the club have stuck on Stevie's head, and IMO, that means he's going nowhere this summer.

Well well well, looks like you have a fan Tolmie! Posted on the Guardian's website at 10.54, a whole hour after you.

Come on Taylor, at least make some attempt to make it look you're not lifting things from here.

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/may/06/roberto-mancini-manchester-city-job-safe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010 ... y-job-safe</a>

Roberto Mancini has been assured he will remain as manager of Manchester City despite his failure to lead the team into the Champions League.

City's 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last night means the richest club in English football will have to settle for next season's Europa League but the chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, says there are no plans to replace the former Internazionale manager.

He and the chief executive, Garry Cook, both went into the dressing room after the game to thank the players for their efforts and Khaldoon told them he was confident that, under Mancini, they would be in a better position to break into the Premier League's top four next season.

That support will be reiterated in an interview with the club's official website, to be pubished later today, in which Khaldoon expresses his support for Mancini and makes it clear that the club's owners in Abu Dhabi are going to give him more time.

Mancini, meanwhile, is already planning to bring his wife, Federica, over to England in September and is renting a house in Manchester after spending his first few months in a city-centre hotel.

He was asked after yesterday's game whether he was worried about losing his job and replied: "I'm confident. I think I will stay here. Why not? I have worked here five months and you don't start from the roof but the basement. We have worked very well and we are near the roof now. But I am not a magician and I don't have a magic wand. We wanted this [fourth] place, just like Liverpool and Aston Villa, but this is football."

It's management-speak. It's a way of rallying the troops.

Just read between the lines... "Everyone was told they have a future at City IF THEY WANT IT..." which means, simply, if you're happy sat on the bench or in the reserves, that's your call.

Or it means they have to come up to the mark and prove "they want it".

I wouldn't get too tied down with the semantics. The axe is being sharpened as we speak...
I can certainly understand the bit about if they don't think it's for them then off you toddle but if people are being paid the salaries some of our players are being played and aren't up to it (and if Mancini should know by now who they are) then they're out. Full stop. End of story. Whether they fancy being on the bench or not.

I'd call each established player in if I were Mancini and give him one of four options:
1) You're good enough and your attitude is right. There's a place here for you in the first team squad. do you want it?

IMO those players would be Hart, Zab, Lescott, De Jong, Kompany, Bellamy, Tevez, Barry, A Johnson, Onouha.

2) I think you have the right attributes but you still need to convince me and step up a level. Here's what you need to do.

My list would be:
Given, Bridge, Richards, Toure.

3) I think you have it but for various reasons you've got to do a lot to convince me and have to remain fit, get some games in and show me your best shot. Do that and you're in otherwise it's the door.

Ireland, M Johnson, Santa Cruz, SWP.

4) You don't figure in my plans. Goodbye

Robinho, Adebayor, Petrov, Sylvinho, Vieira, Garrido plus any off the (b) list who aren't likely to be able to step up to the plate.

Then there's the loanees. I'd give Bojinov the nod over Adebayor if he wants it. Caicedo I like but is probably surplus to requirements. Weiss certainly deserves a few games and I'd put him on List 2.

Then there's the youngsters who he needs to tell that there are a lot of games to go round this season and they will get a chance, particularly if some off list 2 & 3 don't do the business.
