The Agenda (Merged)

You only need to look at the front pages of newspapers to see how stories are twisted or fabricated in order to appeal to their perceived readership, not sure why they would suddenly become bastions of journalistic integrity on the back pages. What annoys me is when the supposed impartial, public funded BBC comes out with similar shite.

Good point

The overriding one imo.

Like the majority, they will have grown up wanting to be associated with success, its human nature......subsequently,over the past 30/40 years or so,they will have attached themselves to the likes of Liverpool,Arsenal, the Rags, and, more recently,Chelsea.

It will take time, however,in a few years I suspect many, who will have done similar where we're concerned, will be in a position to influence and we will see the tide significantly turn,we will also have star players, who have migrated to commentary/puditry fighting our corner.

The ex-players into pundits thing isn't going to work for us for a long time. If Frank becomes one, then he will be sympathetic no doubt, and there's Joe but he's got a long way to go before he retires. Of the foreign lads maybe Zab or Vinnie, if they stay in the country. Otherwise, we have the ex-dipper and rag players clogging up the airways and they will be around for years to prattle on about 'the Liverpool/United way'. Just think, if you're a 30-year-old City fan, you've got another 25 years of little Mikey Owen and his gobbledegook reasoning to put up with. The Agenda and this thread, are in it for the long run.

SSN shows a clip of neymar speaking about his injury and the forthcoming final. a caption pops up as they do introducing him as neymar, barcalona and brazil.
the next player interviewed is aguero. now his caption just reads argentina. no mention of his club side. anyone got any idea why they would mention one players club, during a world cup, and not the other? the next guy interviewed is maxi rodriguez, yes you guess it from newels old boys and argentina. why's that then?

genuine question.

No there's only one agenda in the media and that's to sell papers and advertising. It's not that they're necessarily fans of the clubs it's that they know the headlines that sell and get viewers and clicks. It's more of a bias and a very obvious one.
I remember watching a match of the day recently and they quite fairly showed the rags being poor against a 10 man Villa. The comments reflected the match but then they showed the back pages of tabloids and they're covered with close ups of a roaring Falcao with headlines such as Falcao leads fightback. It's complete tosh but the money is in please the larger crowds. I don't think there's a conspiracy it's just simple economics.

If misery loves company, take a look at this downright weird article having a go at a completely anodyne statement issued by Newcastle about Pardew's departure:

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/11323052/Bizarre-Newcastle-statement-thanking-Alan-Pardew-for-improving-club-on-and-off-pitch-irritates-fans.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... -fans.html</a>

My opinion as well.

For some reason we think that newspapers and media generally should just tell the news as it is with absolutely no spin on it.
Newspaper owners are only interested in profits and their editors / reporters had better be aware of that so alienating its largest customer base with unbiased reporting may not be the wisest career move for an aspiring reporter.

Unfortunately there are more of them (non City supporters) than us at the moment so things are unlikely to change in the near future.

Of course there is an agenda (to maximise profits) and a bias (to pander to most of your customers), this applies to every sector of industry and is not unique to the media.

Your argument is based on sophistry
There are more non city supporting readers, of that there is no doubt
But a lot of neutrals support English teams when they play in the CL as they are 'English', of which one will be City. So why would the papers run with the tag line that Silva didn't celebrate Nasri's goal in Rome, when the only people who would be pleased to read it would be bitter sad cunts, which isn't there largest market?
Whilst it was a pathetic and incorrect jibe it certainly makes me feel there is something more pernicious than pandering to the rag masses.

Apologies if you thought my reasoning appeared deceitful but it is actually based on my understanding of why people own any company in the modern western world.

Even our owner who has more money than most tries to convert his cashpile into a profitable business, he has a business plan second to none in its sector so despite being penalised via FFP for just throwing money at City he has shown the need for profit as his main motive.

Regarding the Silva incident, do you really think that inventing a non football story is original ? Celebs have been the victim of this type of journalism for years it seems to sell papers irrespective of your Club allegiance.
