I've got a couple of small barrel style smokers which are good for hot smoking and I just recently built a cold smoker out of some concrete blocks. Just smoked six whole steelheads( about 3 pounds a piece) for almost a week, a leg of lamb is the next projectmodgeblue said:Do any of you have a smoker and would you recommend getting one ?

A BBQ surrounded by wood? I'd be investing in a fire extinguisher Ronnie :)

Depends modge, how much are you into smoking ?
You can smoke stuff well with a decent regular bbq.
Just use good smoking chips/blocks and use indirect heat bud.
That said if i was going to get a pellet smoker i would look at this <a class="postlink" href="http://www.yodersmokers.com/ys480-pellet-grill.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.yodersmokers.com/ys480-pellet-grill.html</a>
Comes well recommended by some competition pitmasters.

Honestly, what is so great about them? When you finish you stink of smoke and food for one. And I don't care what anyone says, you can't cook evenly and properly on a BBQ. There is always horrible charred bits which just taste like charcoal. It's disgusting. All I ever get is "you've obviously never had a good one...". Well I'm 25 years old, lived in Australia for 6 months of my life, had loads of BBQs here and back home, and none of them have ever made me think, "yknow what? This would not be better if it had been made in a kitchen".
Ovens are a good invention. Use them!
Honestly.. I'd rather have a McDonalds pound saver burger than a burger made on a BBQ

Thanks TCIB, it's an American charcoal barbie which I got because it has a much bigger grill. Plenty of shelf space for the beer as well :-)
