I honestly seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't like BBQs

Honestly, what is so great about them? When you finish you stink of smoke and food for one. And I don't care what anyone says, you can't cook evenly and properly on a BBQ. There is always horrible charred bits which just taste like charcoal. It's disgusting. All I ever get is "you've obviously never had a good one...". Well I'm 25 years old, lived in Australia for 6 months of my life, had loads of BBQs here and back home, and none of them have ever made me think, "yknow what? This would not be better if it had been made in a kitchen".

Ovens are a good invention. Use them!

Honestly.. I'd rather have a McDonalds pound saver burger than a burger made on a BBQ

You have not had proper bbq then Goo, you can control the heat just about perfect bud if you have a proper bbq.
I will cook for you one day mate at a bm do and my challenge is to change your mind.
If you have had proper low and slow bbq ribs you will never get them abominations from a chinese takeaway again matey hehe.

@ modge,

Ok mate i suggest you get a 57cm weber mate, they are the kind of best all rounder and good for pro's and learners.
Get good coals that burn a long time and some good quality chips and blocks like these lot...

You set about 20 coals up on one far side of the bbq and set your meat and drip tray the other side (obviously), even put a foil heat shield next to the coals if your really fastidious.
You will get the same results as any other smoker mate and personally i find it better.

The bbq in question is this mate...

That is a very good price to.

Very nice bbq area Ronnie, very nice indeed :)

Thanks TCIB, it's an American charcoal barbie which I got because it has a much bigger grill. Plenty of shelf space for the beer as well :-)

It looks lovely and is actually useful, nowt worse than little showers putting you off what is otherwise a great day for chilling outside.
You have your own mini watch tower away from the main fort with your minions inside hehe.
The beer space is paramount for any pitmaster worth his pork, that is a cracking grill, nice to see it is charcoal.
Nowt against gas but it kinda compromises the whole ethos of bbq for me.

I'm after the weber smokey mountain next, you look set for life with that beast :)

BBQ novice here!

What is the best way to set up your BBQ?

I have got a brick built one in my Garden with a tray for the coals then a grill and heating rack above.

I really want to get into it this summer as i love being out in the garden, but i never know how to set up the coals and light it correctly etc?

Is it worth putting wood on it aswell? and whats the best method for lighting?

I always end up burning everything!

cheers!

It has good reviews as a first time smoker mate, i'd give it a go, for the price you can't go wrong mate.

yea im gonna give it a go, would you recommend lumpwood for it or would you go for the more expensive webber long lasting as in your picture ?

Have you heard of this Australian Heat Beads its supposed to be really good and reasonable price from here
