The Boxing thread

The stoppage was a little bit unfair on Katsidis I thought the first time he was under so much pressure I thought the ref could of let him get to the end of the round. I wouldnt mind seeing this fight again. Sadly I cant see them fighting again, I think he might go looking for Pacman at a catch weight maybe 140 so Pacman may have to drop down while Marquez will move up a weight slightly. I would love to see the fight happen. If Marquez wins it he should then retire. No matter what Marquez should really be thinking about calling it a day after his next fight. A top class fighter but at times last night he was getting dominated you never want to see those fighters going on forever and ever. If he cant get Pacman just retire as there are no other fights out there for him.

Very good fight. Not sure what i think of the stoppage. I think had it been the other way round Bayless would have given Marquez until the end of the round. Really anjoyed the fight though.

That fight reminded me of Calzaghe V Jeff Lacy. Joe put on a masterclass that night and tonight Froch put on his masterclass.
I honestly think Froch would be a superstar if he had a better promotor. His last 5 fights were against top class fighters and he only lost once. He should be a household name like Haye and Khan yet none of the casual boxing fans know of him. By far the best British fighter out there at the moment. He can box he can bang he is what SKY should be showing yet they couldnt be arsed showing his fights and they have missed out on some wars in the last couple of fights. I honestly think after the defeat he had he has come back stronger and I would think he will go on and win the Super 6.
I agree about Sky, how easily they could've just got the rights to the super 6 tourney. It's a shame for Froch really, no-one over here outside the hardcores has a clue who he is.

I'm not sure about him being best British boxer though, I think I rate Khan a little higher. It's a close one though.

No chance Khan has faced the level of fighters that Froch has over the last few fights. He hasnt gone in with a banger since he won the title who can take a shot from him. Yes this fight coming up is his hardest fight but he has been taking on easy fights since he won the title.
His last 5 fights Abraham , Kessler , Dirrell , Taylor and Pascal I dont know of any other fighter who has boxed 5 hard fights like that in a row. Apart from Bute he has fought all the top men in his division and has only been beaten the once.

Compare that to Khans last 5 fights he has boxed.
Oisin Fagan not even the best in Ireland at the time.
Barrera hate to say this about the man but he was nowhere near to his prime I wont say he is washed up but was getting there. Khan won because of a nasty cut on Barrera's head any other fight it would of been called off it was that bad.
Kotelnik hardest fight for Khan out of them all but he is hardly a huge puncher.
Salita a nice fight for Khan against another fighter who lacks power at the top level another no brainer for team Khan.
Paulie M. Khan out worked him but everyone knows that Paulie has fuck all power his heart is the only good thing he has but he has taken too much shit over the years.

To even put Khan in the level of Froch is a joke at the moment. Yes he has ability but wait and see how he gets on with the bigger fighters in his weight division before you class him ahead of Froch.

Leighton I was talking ability wise mate, obviously Froch has the miles better resume. I think Froch would be regarded by most as the #3 super-middleweight until he beats Ward or Bute though.
I like Bute, but i think Froch's above him in terms of resume. Bute was very lucky to beat Andrade in the first fight. I'm not saying Andrade had enough time to knock him out, but the referee never gave him chance. He did well to stop him in the rematch though.

He's got a few impressive performances over some good fighters but imo they're all a level below the likes of Abraham and Pascal. I think Bute is still a top quality win away from being ranked above Froch. Agree with Ward though. I think Ward outboxes Froch.

2 quick questions:

1. Did you see the Ward fight? I scored it 115-113, it was a pretty close fight from what I saw. The judging in Oakland is horrifically biased.

Download link to the fight: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=25JMF667

2. On the Berto vid, does anyone have any idea who the twin brothers stood behind Michael Buffer at the start are? I've seen them stood there at virtually every HBO event in the last few years, who are they?
