The Boxing thread

Contrary what I've been hearing, Amir Khan didn't prove the critics wrong re his chin on Saturday, he did the exact opposite. Yet again it was clearly evident that he was susceptible to even the most unspectacular of punches, which almost robbed him of a deserved victory.

However, what he did demonstrate was great courage and heart. He was out on his feet on more than one occasion towards the end of the fight, but he fought through it and claimed a well deserved unanimous decision.

I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I gained lot of respect for Amir Khan on Saturday.

Another feather in Khan's cap is that he accepted Maidana's request of the bout being fought with 8oz gloves. The Nevada state rules are usually that with any fight that takes place at 140, both fighters must use 10oz gloves. Credit to Khan for accepting that stipulation and giving Maidana a huge advantage.

I don't know about that. He took an awful lot of flush power shots from a guy with 27 ko's in 29 wins. I think he proved that his punch resistance is a little better at 140 than it was at 135. Still don't think he has great punch resistance, but i don't think it's as bad as many thought.

I put this in the Khan tread.

"Well the 1 thing I would love to see now from Sky now is for them to show the Devon Alexander and Tim Bradley fight live on Sky Sports thats going ahead late January. It will kind of build up to a potential fight to see who is the best at 140 for once and for all. To be honest 140 has the fighters to do a Super 6. I honestly would love to see a Super 6 at that weight division. Khan , Maidana , Bradley , Alexander and 2 from Ortiz , Peterson , Kotelnik or even at a push McCloskey. All young fighters who would match up well against each other."

No doubt about it another Super 6 will be made again and in this division it has the fighters who are young enough to do it. I dont see why Golden Boy are trying to rush a fight with Money thats just daft and I honestly think Money may well call it a day the more I think of it.
That's probably why they're after the fight with Mayweather. He won't be around forever, and Khan vs Mayweather would make a shit load of money.

I think we all know if Mayweather fights on he has bigger fish than Khan to go after so I think that is a long way from happening. I honestly feel he is behind Pac , Martinez , Cotto and even Tim Bradley I would class as having a better chance of fighting Money ahead of Khan. Put it this way I said it before whoever wins the Alexander v Bradley fight could end up getting the Money fight. American great v American future great if Alexander wins it could be marketed in the US and it would sell big numbers.

LAS VEGAS (AP)—A Las Vegas judge has issued an outstanding arrest warrant for boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. on a misdemeanor battery complaint alleging he poked a security guard in the face several times.

Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassel said Thursday that the warrant issued Dec. 8 requires Mayweather to turn himself in or face arrest at any time.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo signed the arrest warrant for Mayweather after a Dec. 7 hearing, then immediately recalled it. It was reinstated after prosecutors complained Mayweather had received special treatment.

The battery allegation stems from a Nov. 15 confrontation over parking tickets between the undefeated champion and a security guard outside Mayweather’s home.

Mayweather faces a a six-month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine if convicted.

Its fucking bullshit if he goes down for that. Crazy shit poking someone in the face yet you get people who would do a hell of a lot worst than that and walk away freely. This reminds me of Steve Collins court case.

Collins was working for Irish tv at the time went to get into the National Boxing arena were the fight was on. He was stopped by a security guard outside the venue saying he wasnt aloud in. A bit of pushing about and Collins in self defence punched the gaurd in the face. It went to trail twice first case favoured the Security gaurd then just a couple of weeks ago they retrailed and they favoured in Collins case. Collins claimed the man knew who he was and was trying to scam him for money. Collins was cleared of everything.

So going by the Collins case then Money should walk away from this without any charge can you imagine. Money in the nick what you in here for I poked a security gaurd in the face. It is another security gaurd trying to make a quick buck on Money.

Nah, not having that. Bradley and Alexander don't really sell tickets. Like it or not, Khan can sell out the MEN fighting a complete bum over here. There would be much more interest in a Khan - Mayweather fight than there would be in a Mayweather - Bradley, or Mayweather - Alexander.

Even Martinez is unlikely to happen. There's actually a great chance that Martinez could face Cotto late next year. In fact i think that is what is being worked on. I think the ship has sailed for a Mayweather - Cotto fight to be honest.

Mayweather would be well interested in fighting Khan.

HBO have rejected the Sergio Martinez - Sebastian Zbik fight. Looks like Andy Lee is stepping in in Zbik's place. Think it's far too soon for Lee.

There has been rumours of Lee v Martinez a couple of weeks now. I beleive what they wanted to do the last I heard it changed to Lee v Duddy on the undercard of Martinez v Zbik. Zbik wont sell in the US so for HBO to reject it doesnt surprise me.

Dont call him Pretty Boy for nothing. I think he knows this isnt going to go any further. By the picture it didnt even look like he left any mark.

Had a look at some of the WBS boxing with all the ams on it some decent boxers so if you get a chance it is well worth a look. Some talented boxers with great boxing skills.
I cant wait for the nationals only a few weeks away over here am's piss all over some of the pro fights.

Warren's made an offer to Khan for him to fight Kell Brook in England at Welterweight.

Don't think Khan should take it personally. No point him moving up to Welterweight, only to come back down again (which he could find hard) to fight either Bradley or Alexander. Having said that Bradley has been up there and come back. Think Khan beats Brook fairly easily. Would probably sell fairly well in England aswell.

Reckon he'll take the Judah fight to be honest.

If I was Warren get Brook a fight with Mat Hatton. Brock will piss all over him and it gives Brock a major title and he is pushed up more in all of the main world ranking bodies. With Warren fighters they dont tend to go down the European route but for Brock and Cleverly this would be ideal. Win the European defend it once or twice then move up for a World title fight.

As for the next Khan fight. I will be interested in who Golden Boy put him in with after the Maidana fight. Cant see him put in with another banger who has the punch power to potential KO Khan so I would rule out the Judah fight he is on a decent run at the moment and seems a risky fight for Khan. Paul McCloskey would be a ideal fight instead of a fight with Judah. McCloskey is a boxer more than a puncher and it will be a different fight to the fight with Maidana.
