The Boxing thread

Kell Brook defends his IBF world welterweight title against Kevin Bizier on March 26th at Sheffield arena. Amir Khan says he wants to fight the winner of Danny Garcia and Robert Guerrero next. Hopefully we'll get a summer showdown with Kell if all goes to plan and Khan gets passed Garcia this time round.

Danny Garcia if he takes to the weight division he will clean up the Welterweight division I rate him highly. Once Manny retires there is enough talent there to do another Super 6. My 6 fighters would be.
Danny Garcia
Keith Thurman
Kell Brook
Tim Bradley
Amir Khan
Errol Spence Jnr or Shawn Porter

There would be some brilliant fights in that division. My final would be Garcia v Thurman but i think Kell would do extremely well in it too I rate Kell but Thurman and Garcia are just ahead of Kell

Can't believe Brook is being made to fight his mandatory. This is a guy who lost twice to Jo Jo Dan - the lad who Kell slaughtered last year. He gets stripped if he doesn't fight him and without a belt, Kell doesn't hold a great deal of sway if he has sights on a fight with Khan, Thurman or Garcia.

Feel a bit sorry for him, but also feel a bit annoyed that he has supposedly been a world class fighter for the last 3 or so years and he has only faced one actual world class fighter.

Its common pratice as the long term champions dont do mandatory fights as often. Look at Wilder he has to fight his mandatory or he loses his title. Only a unification fight will save him from fighting his mandatory. Look at Frampton and Quigg both of those guys will in theory will loose at least 1 belt when they fight each other as there is a mandatory against either Wake or Rigondeaux up next. The WBA only have themselves to blame as Rigo shouldnt of been stripped and he should be the Super Champion. Crazy Scott Quigg is classed as there champion when he hasnt beaten Salinas in the first fight Draw and handed the title and never boxed Rigo and handed that title a lucky fighter it seems.

If it carries on like this Kell is going to have to drop the belt to get some worthwhile fights. It wont happen though thats the total opposite of what Eddie Hearn wants

thats eddie hearn all over. Some fighters he believes in. Kell and DeGale were he will let them fight in the US and even Lee Selby as they are his fighters who are techincally sound both attacking and defending wise. Then you got his iffy 1s in Anthony Crolla , Scott Quigg the Smith brother who is fightinfg for the world title the ones he feels that have a 35 to 50 % chance of them winning he will always try and get them there fights in the UK to protect them and pick up really close calls on the cards.

Garcia looks polished at 147lb and doesn't get enough credit in my book. I think Danny beats Thurman if it happens, although he hits as hard as any at welter I think Garcia would stay out of range and outbox him. I think Khan is a more interesting fight with Virgil in his corner. Last time out Khan decided to stand and trade with Garcia and got beat up, be interesting to see what he's learnt. Tough last fight against Algieri but against Devon Alexander looked sharp and won every round bar one.

Bit early to say whether Liam Smith will make it at welterweight, I think Callum is a potential world champion at 168lb, fantastic jab and jumped straight on Rocky Fielding in his last fight, amazing finish.

Callum looks by far the best of the Smith brothers but Rocky was caught cold. I would love to see Callum in with maybe Groves or Martin Murray 2 who have boxed up at World title level and both unlucky not to have won a World title in my opinion.

Some great domestic fights out there at super middle, Murray looks strong at this weight and theres plenty of options. If Shane gets the best out of groves then I can see a rematch down the road with Degale. I think that defeat still narks JD and the chance to put it right will come if groves starts to impress.

Would love to see Stevenson v Kovalev this year, but depends if the TV networks can get their shit together. Will be interesting to see how Andre Ward does at 175lb. Also hoping for a Lomachenko v Nicholas Walters fight at some point, VL looked the business in his last fight albeit having a slowish start to his pro career.

Yeah some really good fights to be made in the future both in the UK and Ireland and all over the world.
Look for this 1 to happen Andy Lee v Mathew Macklin big domestic fight in Ireland will happen if Lee doesn't get the rematch with Billy Joe Saunders.
Also look out for Ryan Burnett with matchroom this kid is going straight to the top so good and with Adam Booth he has the best trainer to get him to were he has to be.
Next week looking forward to see Groves under Shane McGugian think he is getting the best out of his fighters so far. His stable are flying with a lot of hungry fighters in there expect Marco McCullough to have a good year too. Just a matter of time before he fights for Brithish and European titles.
