The Boxing thread

Got back from the Caribbean around 6am, few hours kip and onto the boxing earlier on.

Outstanding card with some brilliantly matched up contests (yes there were a couple of no-shows but that can't be helped).

Plenty to get the juices flowing mind.

Top bill was outstanding - can't be anyone else I'm the division that could remotely live with Beterbiev or Bivol.

2 absolutely outstanding fighters that were fighting at such a high class and tempo was another great watch.

I had Bivol possibly I'm preference in the first, didn't think there was any doubt this time round.

Both fighters deserve a break - absolutely terrific watch.............

P.s. also really enjoyed Ortiz and Madrimov - another brilliant matchup in style and quality for my liking

Just watched a top interview with Jones and Price.

I know fuck all about women’s boxing but I’ve just fallen in love with Price. Proper raw little character and proper self-confident.

Is she any good? Or just another daft gobshite?
She's nails mate

Tank takes a knee mid round, Roach stops fighting, ref steps in, Tank gets up runs to his corner to get his face wiped and the fight carries on.

No knockdown says the ref !!!!

It cost Roach one of the biggest upsets of recent years

Sure the fight in Belfast Paddy Donovan got DQed after while in a combination KoD Crocker now he had points docked during the fight for head butts which one was iffy. But to loose the fight I felt harsh for him. He was winning on all cards too the ref wasn't positioned right to step in at the end of the round to tell them to stop fighting. Donovan is another who is well worthy of winning a world title he has the speed and combinations it was a eliminator fight too for him in Crockers back yard too so hard to take.

Marcus McD thinks he’s the biggest star in any ring and often ruins fights with his fussy refereeing. That said I thought he had no choice here…. Donovan had been fouling all fight long and was taking no notice of warnings or point deductions so to throw a punch that long after the bell having already had 2 points deducted was asking for trouble. I do agree with you though that the ref should have been better placed to break them up on the bell.

Donovan’s a decent euro level fighter but Boots would dazzle him and break him down I think. And Barrios might be too tough for him

It's hard to say it's a top class division. So many good fights out there. Paddy will have a point to prove he will think he was robbed. Going into his back yard and yeah heads were going in but were they legit head butts by Donovan or clashes of heads. Another ref would of judged them differently. The knockdown in the 8th round and he went for the kill. Yeah maybe with experience he wouldn't of went for the kill and waited but that's what the fight games about exciting fights with KOs is what most fans want to see.

What's the bluemoon thinking for the fight tonight? Personally think Jonas will step into the ring with her shorts up to her eyeballs as usual giving price not much to aim for

Was looking forward to that fight. Don’t really know too much about the ladies apart from Katie Taylor. But the publicity grabbed my attention. Pity it was so one sided really. Not sure Jonas landed a meaningful punch in the whole fight.

Good night for women’s boxing though. I assume Jonas is going to retire now? The ring is no place for a person in their 40s. Man or woman.

She might be a scouser but she’s represented Champs. Camp well. Which is a place close to my heart.

C'mon. Depends on the individual. Plenty of examples of old fighters who hold/held titles.

I can think of a handful who might have still been good enough to win a few fights over 40.

Not many who looked a shadow of their younger version though. And even if they are still winning, the body is designed to be able to taking that sort of punishment at that age.
