leighton said:Roy Jones Jnr what a talent he was. Back in around 96 or 97 I think or it could of been a year earlier Steve Collins called him out and Roy was having none of it. It was the only fight left for Collins after beating Eubank and Benn. It got to the stage were Collins was coming to a point were Jones was avoiding him. It was a shame that Collins retire so young at 33 or 34 but it seemed that he fell out of love with boxing after not getting the Roy Jones fight. I think they were going to have Collins v Calzaghe but Collins decided to call it a day. A bit like Froch with Calzaghe when he was coming to the end the fight just never happend and if it would of it would of been 2 cracking fights to have seen when you see what both fighters went on to do.
Collins v Jones Jnr , Collins v Clazaghe and Clazaghe v Froch 3 fights that should of happend but never happend. Its always the same in boxing and still to this day the fights that should be made still dont get made this is the thing that pisses me off about boxing. Promotors just happy to avoid the big fights until the last moment if at all it will kill boxing off if it continues.
Calzaghe did a great job of dodging Jones Jr when he was good and then saw he was falling apart and got the fight. If that fight had been 6-7 years earlier Calzaghe would not have an 0 in his fight record
