Just my opinion. I feel like the Queen was a high point on which to end a completely out is date, born to rule system. Plenty of other countries have managed to get over their monarchies.
I don't think it's ever going to end abruptly.
But i'm sure things will accelerate now, and they were already going quickly if you look at the power the crown had when QE2 came to power compared to today.
I think we will eventually have a constitutional crisis where people realise that the crown's increasingly ceremonial role has actually just transferred more and more power into the hands of the PM, and that actually a head of state who can intervene when the PM breaks the law or tries to make a Russian Oligarch a Lord is better than a decorative box ticker.
Then the crown will just spin off and be what people argue it is now - just a nice tourist attraction with little real power.
