I don't think it's ever going to end abruptly.

But i'm sure things will accelerate now, and they were already going quickly if you look at the power the crown had when QE2 came to power compared to today.

I think we will eventually have a constitutional crisis where people realise that the crown's increasingly ceremonial role has actually just transferred more and more power into the hands of the PM, and that actually a head of state who can intervene when the PM breaks the law or tries to make a Russian Oligarch a Lord is better than a decorative box ticker.

Then the crown will just spin off and be what people argue it is now - just a nice tourist attraction with little real power.

It's the application of today's values to history. The inability to contextualise, combined with look at me hand wringing and being the biggest apologist.
Yes bad things happened. Things recognised as being such and we've developed as societies since.

Agreed. Not a hater and actually very sad as she has been there all my life. However a monarchy is not something I support. I advocate a republic and scream for less politicians and PR. A mature state. It won't happen in my lifetime.
