I don't know about 2016, but the recent jump is because it is tied to the profit from the Crown Estate - something that is run by a commission for the government.

The %age is reviewed occasionally, last time reduced the percentage quite a lot (a big increase in %age in 2017-18, I think, but a big reduction recently (a year or two ago, which may not yet be reflected in that chart?)).

The chart starts in 2012 because that's the first time after the Act was introduced.

The big jump recently reflects a big jump in profits for the Crown Estate, I think largely from offshore wind farms.

Yep. The crown owns the sea bed. Bonkers. Surely it should belong to all of us.
 
I'd keep them for tourism purposes. But more along the lines of the human zoos the Tralfamadorians have in Slaughterhouse 5.
 
I used to like the Queen, she devoted her life to the position she was born into

Now however, I'm 100% in favour of the abolition of the monarchy, I can't take to a single one of them, the land belongs to us, I cringe when I see people bowing down to them, get off your knees people, these grifters offer nothing, they are are as disjointed and dysfunctional as the rest of us, but enjoy a lifestyle and privilege they've neither earnt or deserve.

Agree the crown estate plus the air above and minerals in the ground under your feet, even if it’s freehold. The crown is the government at least the King only gets a percentage and why I should leave a will because your possessions go to the crown if it remains unclaimed

All the time when they are at the beck and call of the suits in Whitehall dress up and entertain Trump or whoever the government tells them to lord it over. That’s the reality of the “firm”

Every single one of the royals would live in luxury for life even if we got rid tomorrow. They keep most of their riches.

No matter how much wealth the crown has living in luxury, when the end draws to a close its no use to them in the afterlife, we are all equal

There is no afterlife, so that screws that theory up :)
 
Don't get me wrong coz Andrew blah blah blah whatever he is now is a nonce **** and deserves all he gets but Sky news running with a headline of " Andrew SUMMONSED to appear before a US committee" and then the spokesman saying "we are REQUESTING Andrew comes before us" is such bullshit its untrue. How can a US senate committee summons someone to anything is beyond me.
