The Conservative Party

Sergey Lavrov (Russian Foreign Minister) describes talks with 'unprepared' Truss as like a conversation between a mute person and a deaf person.

They’re laughing at us, a serious failure on our part.

They’re supposed to remain impartial when it comes to matters of the law though.
Of course they are - everytime she leaps up from the Tory front bench in her blue dress that looks like a hand me down from Maggie she's neutral I'm sure. This is a British parliamentary failing, not just a Tory one if you recall the AG 'advice' to Blair in the run up to Iraq?

I said when it comes to matters of the law, both of those aren’t comparable scenarios. She can go in there wearing blue rosettes and holding a buggered pig in her arms, she still should be putting the constitution above party politics. She’s not offering legal advice, she’s choosing to ignore it.

The credibility of our PM and his ministers is laughable. Sending them to negotiate with the big boys is embarrassing.
Not just embarrassing but dangerous. Our politicians are so lightweight and lacking in credibility they make the whole western alliance look weak which gives the Russians licence to take the piss, because they know that at least one country in NATO will make decisions prioritising its own inept government's preservation ahead of taking the best course of action to counter Russian aggression.

Spot on

And if you complain about it in writing, the Home Secretary, and not the judiciary, will have the power to have you sent to prison for up to10 years if he/she doesn't like what they see as undue criticism.

Don't protest about it either, because that will land you in prison for up to 10 years, and if you rescue someone in the sea that is drowning, well, that's a potential life sentence.

It really is astounding that we are teetering on the edge of becoming a fascist country. That may seem an extreme opinion, and I find it difficult to rationalise it myself, but it is what it is, and it will soon be law you can't protest or criticise the government.

They tried to illegally prorogue parliament, lied to the Head of State, the Queen, lie at the despatch box in the House of Commons, have no respect for the ministerial code, won't release the report into Russian interference in the referendum, lie about the employment figures which ignore the self-employed, lie about us having the highest growth rates of the G7 economies, and above all, lied about getting brexit done!

We'll see how that has been achieved later this year.

Everything about this government is a lie, from top to bottom, and without doubt this is the worst parliament I have seen in my 64 years. I detested Thatcher, but she was a paragon of virtue compared to the clueless shower now running the country. When you watch previous ministers like Michael Hesaltine and John Major collectively shaking their heads in bewilderment at the state of our government today, ministers I despised years ago but now find myself nodding in agreement with, I despair, I really do.
I certainly don’t think that this is an extreme opinion at all.
Fascism doesn’t come marching down the street in a uniformed gang, it comes to you by reducing and destroying your human and civil rights ,your right to protest, and ultimately your right to partake in the democratic process.
We can already see this.

The AG is not a neutral non partisan appointment, although like you I feel it should be.
Hi mate. You are correct and my wording was clumsy. My issue with her is that, irrespective of her political persuasions , she should try to give a straight answer to a matter of law. It was obvious that Boris wanted a puppet when he appointed her. Someone who would be a Boris groupie super fan and take instruction to undertake actions like undermining the judicial system.

I remember it being pointed out that, at the time of appointment, her High Court experience comprised a small number of planning disputes and a legal rumble over soft childrens toys.

Reap what you sow and all that.

I guess though, when you pick the lawyer to defend you, you will want them to use the existing laws to your advantage.

Isn't that how it works?
