Luxury tower blocks - have you seen student halls??

One of my kids went to Salford and in the 1st year had student accommodation on the campus, I could not believe how good it was, it was amazing. As indeed was the Student Union - we went and watched a football match on one of the many screens (beer was surprisingly expensive though, not much different from a local pub whereas when I was a student it was £1 a pint!).

Student Halls now are not like back in the day, which is why I feel so strongly that these kids in Huddersfield have had the carpet pulled out from under their feet, so, so close to the start of term.

In July Braverman bought tents for the expected summer influx of migrants:

I bet they are still in a warehouse somewhere, gathering dust? More money wasted.

And I also expect Labour supporters to say: Labour won't put migrants on barges (even though they have said they will) they definitely would not put migrants in tents.

Yet the French do!

Which might have something to do with why so many want to come here!

Leaving aside that final line slur, any answer to my question:

Recently a Hotel made 100 workers redundant as it was closing down as a luxury Hotel to be turned into accommodation for migrants - what do Labour Party people think about that?

Here is another one:

"More than 100 Huddersfield students told to find new flats as asylum seekers moved into luxury tower blocks":

This is like 2 weeks before term starts! Unbelievable.

P.S. The UN Refugee Convention of 1951 is 72 years old and it is not fit for purpose with respect to current pressures on global migration.
You do realise putting people in hotels and student accommodation is a Tory government action?

They're spending money on hotels because they cut the number of asylum seekers being processed.

Note to self. Keep remembering he's a WUM.

when did they attend? I can tell you now York St John and University of Cumbria in Carlisle halls are a rudimentary bedroom - shared kitchen for 5 and shared bathroom at the end of the hall for 10 students

These are the flats in question - note despite the fancy pictures how many of the amenities are communal

When did they attend? Last year. Only get 1st yr on campus, so is moving into a terraced house with mates next week.

But I don't understand why you provided a pic of HD1 Huddersfield to backup your case, it looks lovely.

Maybe I am comparing it with what I had to endure in the early 1990s, that was prison-like!

You point out 'many of the amenities are communal' maybe so, nowt wrong with that.

It is still wrong that 2 weeks before term starts Huddersfield students have to find somewhere else to live because of the governments failure to sort out the migrant crisis, especially as there was a blueprint for how to do it: just copy Australia. Plus bring in I.D. cards and tie them into to the grey economy: any car wash place/take-away/taxi firm employing people without a valid I.D. card gets shut down.

Here is some new news:

"Belgium to stop providing shelter for single male asylum seekers...."

What not even with communal amenities!!!

"Belgium has said it will no longer provide shelter for single male aylum seekers in order to prevent women and children from being left on the streets this winter.

Shelters in Belgium have been overwhelmed by a high number of migrant arrivals compared to other EU member states, ministers have said.

“Our country has been doing more than its share for a long time,” said Nicole de Moor, the secretary of state for asylum and migration. “This is really not going to continue. This year there are 19,000 registered asylum seekers in Belgium compared to 1,500 in Portugal, a country with a similar population.”

The state will no longer provide access to free food or shelter while single men have their asylum applications processed, she said.

Belgium is one of the countries through which illegal migrants pass before attempting to cross the Channel to the UK."

How are they going to do this, what will the EU say?
What will the ECHR say?
What will the UN say?

Good Luck Belgium, Britain would never dare....
