If someone is so good at their job, they don’t get moved 5 times in a year.
I was going to say that they must have a small talent pool to choose from, but I think it’s actually more of a wet patch with some mould growing on it.

Just saw a statistic yesterday. The average UK standard of living is now below the average in the Czech Republic. It is forecast to go below that of Poland.

These are countries recovering from half a century of Communism and Russian exploitation of their resources. What, exactly, is our excuse?

BTW if we are really that poor, and it seems we are, we cannot afford luxuries such as nuclear bombs and aircraft carriers. Whether we 'need' them or not is neither here nor there. We can't afford them. Amazingly, we spend more of our GDP on defence than Germany does, but we also spend less than them on education and health.

I could dig it out if anyone is bothered, but I recall in the India on the moon thread, someone berating them and saying things along the lines of the money should be spent on feeding the poor in the country.
Can’t recall who it was but they were basically making out that India is a poverty stricken country on a vanity trip.

I looked up the stats on world populations and was very surprised to see poverty in the UK at close to 20% and in India it was currently down to between 16-17%.

Don’t know what the criteria used for poverty was, but regardless I was surprised at the UK rankings even within Europe.

I heard a serving solider on a radio phone in earlier - that was pretty much his sentiment - he said to put such a significant non-event in charge of the MoD was a slap in the face for those in the armed forces

We have less troops than we did in Napoleonic wars

We have less ships than a bloke who owns a fishing fleet in Whitby

We have aircraft carriers with no aircraft

We have nuclear submarines ... but only one can put to sea at any one time.

We have nuclear weapons but the GPS navigation system is run by the Americans
