The Conservative Party

As I will never tire of saying we left the EU thus ending the Dublin Agreement membership which in turn meant that more and more people will come here knowing we can't deport them - its on us and the EU have zero reason to respond to this weak mans pleas - pissing in the wind.

What they really wanted to say was ‘PM, you must let us deport the sick-notes’.

Highest tax rates in living history and now taking more off us by freezing the tax freehold’s, where is all this money going?

We give huge amounts to the already rich by subsidising the low earners, not only covering the difference with minimum wage but also covering the rental issue.

Destroyed the country and purposely taking us back to Victorian times. Killing education, the rest falls out from there.

Hoist with his own petard;' (Shakespeare).

Not the least of my objections to modern Tories is that they are fucking hypocrites. On a massive scale, and quite unabashed about it.

I am fast coming to the conclusion that anyone wanting public office is unfit for it and that Parliament should not be elected but filled by random conscription, on a basis similar to ERNIE. We could scarcely do worse.

I've found myself wondering if we should give technocracy a bash. Don't think anybody has really given it a decent go so far. Singapore is close but no cigar - more a defacto one-party state that values expertise.

As long as we put down some ethical boundaries so we don't go all out "eugenics". Surely can't be any worse than what we have?

I think it could get worse pretty quickly. Moreover there's lots that's fixable about our version of representative democracy starting with electoral reform to actually make it representative. There are forces that would love us to throw the baby out with the particularly fetid bath water we have for a current government. Imo we should resist the temptation.

If we wanted to experiment with more expertise led models we could take a particular area (possibly education) out of the political arena but depoliticising anything is increasingly difficult.

Do they fudge the figures?

Not necessarily but when Newspapers and Politicians talk about ''the benefits bill'' and the number of people on benefit includes

People on State Pension )changed from Pension to benefit by Osborne so he could dick around with peoples retirement age.

People on PIP (The terminally ill / those with long term conditions / disabled ) You should remember that the disabled used to be guaranteed employment (where able) until the Tories sold off REMPLOY. Thus throwing 100.000s out of a gainful occupation and making them ''benefit pariahs''

Carers of people on PIP who spend 35 hours or more per week looking after someone.

People who are claiming Child benefit

People who are short term sick. (a situation not helped by the current backlog in waiting times and shortage of Doctors and Nurses )

People in full / part time employment whose job doesn't pay enough so has to be topped up by me and you, An example as below (but a bit out of date now but still valid)

Be very careful who you class as ''benefit scroungers'' as most of them have paid in all their lives.

The whole 'benefit scroungers are the problem' narrative is very easily disproved but persists in the heads of far too many. I find some people are open to understanding better the actual problems with the welfare system of which there are many but others do not want to move beyond their misdirected anger.

How did you get from "modern Tories" to "anyone wanting public office"?

I thought we could do what we liked now we are free of EU rules?

we can - as can others - if those others agree on certain rules they can do so and if that means we must comply with certain rules to trade with them so they can - this was the English exceptionalism that was branded as Project Fear that was sold to the gullible - the idea the rest of the world would bow to our will was something that belonged in the age of empire

It's not the EU, it's the ECHR.

Because although the Tories are the most egregious, I don't think the others are exactly saints. Kier Starmer has already dropped all the pledges of which he was elected Leader, and I'm pretty sure that if you said 'Kier, you will be PM tomorrow, but you must sell your granny for 50p', Granny would be up for sale immediately. There are no principles there, he says what he thinks he must to get elected. I prefer him to the Tories, sure, but I have no illusions.
