The Darkest Hour? - 1998 Stoke relegation video

That's the first time I've ever been able to watch that and the emotion of that day still brings a lump to my throat 12 years on.
The old fella died in 99 just after we were beaten at home by Oldham...he never saw the joy at Wenbley the following season.
He'd love it now.

Some of the nobheads in the media should watch that and listen to the commentary...and the fans magnificent reaction to our darkest hour.

Class.Absolute class.

Craig Russell. God my mind had removed any memory of him to protect me from potential self harming. He was seriously shit.
To be fair, he wasn't on his own in that team. The facts don't lie; they weren't good enough to stay in the second tier of English football. For every Gio, there were 3 or 4 Craig Russells.

I had a think about what was the real low point as a City fan, because m27 and you are right, it actually got worse.

York, Darlington away, Burnley, Wrexham, Lincoln home, etc.

I reckon the real low point was actually when Gillingham went 2-0 up.

It was my personal low, though that season saw a number of them.

I didn't even bother with the Stoke game, didn't go, didn't listen, didn't watch the vidiprinter (or whatever shit we had then). I was working the following night, and just went to bed, got up at 5pm to be greeted by the news we'd battered Stoke but it didn't matter.

I'd already resigned myself to that happening anyway.

Can't see a lot of point in bringing this up now. That was in the last century. We've moved on.

Fucking dark afternoon that was. I was there with our kid in the away end. The actual fact we had been relegated to the 3rd Division didn't sink in until we reached the train. A quiet carriage with Blues gently sobbing because it was mayhem outside as we made our way back. A lot of people blame Stoke but City's nutter's were out in force that day as well.

By the way for all the people who slag Brian Marwood off on here he is the co commentator at this game and he can't praise City enough so take heed.

And did I hear in the commentary they say "a club with history". Priceless!

I seem to remember a home game against Bury that wasn't all that great either. This game was just another nail in the Kinky leaving coffin - as I remember the only good thiong was he went to Ajax for good money (then), instead of scum or barcodes. Helps put our current "problems" in perspective though.

Did we lose 1-0 at home to Bury on Boxing Day?

Scary.

Also I agree that being 2-0 down to Gillingham was the darkest hour, but this (Stoke) was probably the saddest day.
