The end of Dzeko

Dubai Blue has it absolutely right......although I also incline to the view that it's all Thatcher's fault!

The people talking about confidence certainly make a valid point. I may be talking nonsense here, but to my eyes when Dzeko comes on and his first touch of the ball is a good one, he generally goes on to have a good game. But when he comes on and the ball bounces off him like he's a lampost, it's generally an uphill battle from then on; his head goes down and nothing goes right for him.

I've seen him display some sublime control and I've also seen him incapable of trapping a bag of sand, so confidence is certainly a factor. He obviously needs to be playing regularly and I can't see that happening for him at City; another reason why his time at the club is probably up.

I think there's a wider issue - which is that it's going to be nigh on impossible to keep 4 top line strikers happy. Whoever the "4th" is, will either need to be very old, or very young, because we saw this season that even with CL/Europa league games, Dzeko really didn't feature enough post Christmas to warrant having him on the wage bill at over 100k a week.

Dzeko will come good wherever he goes to next - I don't believe he doesn't have the talent.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Have you watched us for the majority of this season? Particularly the last 2 games against Norwich and West Brom. When we are at our best we move the ball quickly. Yes it is with short passes, but it always baffles me why people see that as some kind of insult. It's 2012, the days of being successful with long balls are over. Possession is king.

Posssession IS king - as long as you do something with it - which for a long stretch of the season (prior to last few games) wasnt the case with us.

Reason why we got knocked out of CL and EL - pointless, futile possession and passing around the 30 yard line with no ideas going forward.

I think you will find that out of the 4 major leagues in Europe, only Madrid and Barcelona have scored more goals than us! We've scored 85 league goals FFS!

Ladyman says:

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund will battle for Edin Dzeko’s signature as Manchester City prepare to let the Bosnia striker leave this summer.

City are resigned to losing Dzeko after coach Roberto Mancini was made aware of the striker’s unhappiness with being part of a large squad.

It is understood Bundesliga leaders Dortmund and Champions League semi-finalists Bayern are keen to bring the 26-year-old back to the league where he once played so well for Wolfsburg.

Bayern have already made Dzeko aware of their interest and City sources believe that is his most likely destination if they can match his wages and come up with the £20million-plus fee the Barclays Premier League club will demand.

Dortmund, though, will try to get involved if they lose their prolific Poland striker Robert Lewandowski to a big club this summer and know they will have Champions League football to offer if they can close out the Bundesliga title.

Mancini has no desire to lose Dzeko but is aware of the player’s unhappiness. Indeed such have been Dzeko’s poor efforts in training in recent weeks that it will be a surprise if he starts another City game this season.

Sigh

Such a shame that it doesnt look like it will work out for him, he seems like such a nice guy, but he has still contributed importantly to our season and I appreciate that of him.

Does anyone who watch the training know if there is any truth in this claim? I always read the training reports but haven't seen them in a while. I really don't hope this is true and if it isn't surely the paper should apologise to Dzeko? I really like Dzeko, I think he is a great person and committed but he simply doesn't suit our style of play.I t would really suprise me if he was slacking in training. I think this is some big bullshit from the Daily Mail.
