I’ve no particular issue with prisoners being let out early. The problem is about 70% of them are homeless now. No planning.

Cause and effect. They’ve not really thought some of their earlier decisions through terrible well.

They have no choice but to free up prison places , the tories let them drop to a hundred in the whole country., What do labour do ? The police have to be able to arrest criminals and the courts send some to prison, without that happening might as well decriminalise everything

Yep - the thing is though can you image the vitriol of the usual suspects if the Tories had done this?
Yet a Labour government does it and with the odd exception - support for Reeves!

Not just WFA now though - it's now looking like single pensioner Council Tax relief and free travel passes on top.
So you will now only have the option of freezing in your home without the option of traveling to public buildings to keep warm.
Lovely - a pogrom on older folks couldn't be designed better.

If that were true, and there we no connection between you contributing NI and your pension benefit, then why do you have to contribute 10 years of NI to qualify for any state pension and 35 to qualify for it all? That that correlation exists creates a contract.

The fact the government pay for current pensions out of current taxes is “just in time” financial planning on their part.

Good question :) in my case 45years of paying a NI stamp and employers contribution to that stamp
The NI fund is still separate from Tax but in stead of government taking a surplus from the fund since 1978 they use more of it on means tested benefits.
The government would have us believe they pay state pension out of income tax that’s not so. Whereas 70% from the fund went on state benefits including our pensions it’s probably a lot less now as government uses more of the fund the pot gets smaller and smaller

It was Osborne .... who then used the change to increase the pension age and steal billions off the 50's women.

Thanks :) Osborne that’s right in France they riot in the UK everyone thinks pension age is a long way off we won’t worry about the State Pension. A lot never reach pension age after working all their lives.

This is the new Labour mantra - A NEW DEAL FOR WORKING PEOPLE! So anyone who isn't working, and anyone who has worked but is now retired can just go and screw yerself. And the folk who are receiving the "New Deal' appear not to be floundering around the bread line. I await a double percentage increase for MPs.

Whilst you’re correct, we do have a massive prison population compared to our closest European neighbours.
Even if we locked people up at the same rate as France, we’d have 10,000 fewer prisoners. If we did it at the same rate as Finland, we’d have 50,000 fewer prisoners.
Estimated cost for a prisoner is £52,000 means we are spending over £4B a year on keeping people in the nick. We must be able to spend a lot of that money better, surely?

if the figures were separated out we would find in today's figures:

Average Salary: £33000
NI Paid per year: £2083

So if you are "fully Paid up" you will have worked 35 years so will have paid in 2083 x 35 = £72905. The max pension is £11502.

Just run that amount through the calculator on here... https://www.2020financial.co.uk/pension-forecast-calculator/ which uses data from the last 100yrs of stock market and bond rates.

Investing £2083 per year for 35 years in a balanced portfolio (bonds, cash, stocks/shares) gives you an average outturn of £471k with that amount you could drawdown £11502 indefinitely which increases with inflation of 2.5% year on year and still have far more than the principal sum left over when you peg it.

Not suggesting thats what should happen but interesting none the less and before anyone says it, yes I know NI pays for more than pensions.

My wife lives off dla and doesn't get winter fuel allowance.
Her parents own a house worth over half a million and have over 100k in the bank. They get wfa.

But she'll get it when she reaches old age, as long as we bring these charlatans to account now so we don't lose it for all pensioners.

Only 25% or so of pensioners vote Labour. You can see why Labour aren't exactly going to run to put pensioners first.
